Razriady (books)
Razriady (russian: Разряды) or ''Razriadnye knigi'' (Razriad books) were a kind of register books in traditional Russian office work of 15–17th centuries. These were annual records that included the appointment of the noblemen to various posts, as well as descriptions of major military campaigns, information on the weddings of rulers and their relatives, on receptions of ambassadors, on awards for service, etc. The originals of Razriad books were burned in 1682 in order to fight against ''mestnichestvo'', however, some copies and compilations (of varying quality) were preserved. The ''Razriady'' are the one of the most important sources in the history of the early-modern Russian state. History The Russian word ''razriad'' can be translated as "section, division, category". Mestnichestvo
In Russian history, ''Mestnichestvo'' (russian: ме́стничество, ; from ме́сто, a position) was a feudal hierarchical system in Russia from the 15th to 17th centuries. ''Mestnichestvo'' was a complicated system of seniority which dictated which government posts a ''boyar'' could occupy. It was based on the individual's seniority within an extended Russian aristocratic family on the one hand, and on the order of precedence of the families, on the other. The hierarchy of families was calculated based on the historical records of senior appointments, going back to 1475 ( ''Razriady''). For example, the Odoevskys clan was ranked higher than the Buturlins, but a senior Buturlin could be appointed to a position equivalent to that occupied by a junior member of the Odoevsky family. History Of Russia
The history of Russia begins with the histories of the East Slavs. The traditional start-date of specifically Russian history is the establishment of the Rus' people, Rus' state in the north in 862, ruled by Varangians. Staraya Ladoga and Veliky Novgorod, Novgorod became the first major cities of the new union of immigrants from Scandinavia with the Slavs and Finnic peoples, Finns.
