Raynald Desjardins
Raynald Desjardins (born October 2, 1953) is a prominent organized crime figure in Montreal, and a former associate of the Rizzuto crime family. In 2010, he was part of a violent effort to take control of the Rizzutos' operations. He is currently serving a 14-year prison sentence for his role in the 2011 murder of the acting boss of New York's Bonanno crime family, Salvatore Montagna. The French-Canadian Desjardins has been described as "the most influential non-Italian in the Montreal Mafia since William Obront and Armand Courville". Despite sharing the same surname, Desjardins is not related to André Desjardins, a notoriously corrupt union boss turned loan shark. In criminal law, time served is an informal term that describes the duration of pretrial detention (remand), the time period between when a defendant is arrested and when they are convicted. Time served does not include time served on bail but only during incarceration and can range from days to, in rare cases, years. Graft, as understood in American English, is a form of political corruption defined as the unscrupulous use of a politician's authority for personal gain. Political graft occurs when funds intended for public projects are intentionally misdirected in order to maximize the benefits to private interests. Political graft functions when the public officer is directed to purchase goods or services from a specific private interest at a cost far above regular market rates. The private interest then siphons some of the gratuitous profits to government officials who are able to ensure that future government spending continues in the same fashion so that this lucrative relationship continues. Maurice Boucher
Maurice Boucher (21 June 1953 – 10 July 2022) was a Canadian gangster, convicted murderer, reputed drug trafficker, and outlaw biker—once president of the Hells Angels' Quebec Nomads chapter. Boucher led Montreal's Hells Angels against the rival Rock Machine biker gang during the Quebec Biker War (french: Guerre des motards au Québec) of 1994 through 2002 in Quebec, Canada. In 2002, Boucher was convicted of ordering the murders of two Quebec prison officers in an effort to destabilize the Quebec Justice system. He was sent to serve three life sentences at Canada's only supermax prison, in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines. While imprisoned there, Boucher survived several assassination attempts motivated by his infamy, and was placed in a special unit of the prison to isolate him.
