Raymond Hewitt
Raymond "Masai" Hewitt (January 1, 1941 – March 2, 1988) was an American civil rights activist and one of the leaders of the Black Panther Party. Black Panther Previous to joining the Black Panther Party, Hewitt worked as a school teacher and had been a Marxist activist, working with a group called United Front, a socialist organization which also taught self-defence to its members in the form of karate. Hewitt joined the Black Panther Party in 1967 and was given the title of Minister of Education. Hewitt was considered by the Panthers to have a strong understanding of political and Marxist theory. Target of COINTELPRO Hewitt was a target of COINTELPRO, a controversial FBI scheme intended to undermine radical organizations, which FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover had specifically directed to destroy the Black Panther Party. Joyce Haber
Joyce Haber (1931–1993) was an American gossip columnist who worked for the ''Los Angeles Times''. Haber was one of Hollywood's last powerful gossip columnists who "were capable of canonizing a film or destroying a star". She took over the old job of Hedda Hopper. Haber left the ''Times'' in 1976 to write a roman a clef titled ''The Users''. It was her only novel, rose to the top of the New York Times Bestseller List, and was made into a tele-film with the same name. She was married to television producer Douglas S. Cramer from 1966-1972 and had two children, Douglas S. Cramer III and Courtney Cramer, with him. In 1994, Cramer attempted to produce a two-act play about their marriage entitled ''The Last Great Dish'' but failed to get it off the ground. Southern Christian Leadership Conference
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) is an African-American civil rights organization based in Atlanta, Georgia. SCLC is closely associated with its first president, Martin Luther King Jr., who had a large role in the American civil rights movement. Founding On January 10, 1957, following the Montgomery bus boycott victory against the white democracy and consultations with Bayard Rustin, Ella Baker, and others, Martin Luther King Jr. invited about 60 black ministers and leaders to Ebenezer Church in Atlanta.
