Raymond H. Bares
Raymond Hubert Bares (April 17, 1929 – April 27, 1964) was an American politician and educator. Bares was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School. He served inn the United States Army in 1951 and 1952. received his bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University and his master's degree in social work from Catholic University of America. Bares lived in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, with his wife and family, He was an elementary teacher and principal. Bares also worked as a counselor for Catholic Charities. Bares served in the Minnesota Senate from 1963 until his death. Bares, his wife, and daughter were killed in an automobile accident in Loogootee, Martin County, Indiana Martin County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. Sauk Rapids, Minnesota
Sauk Rapids is a city in Benton County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 13,862 at the 2020 census and is 13,896 according to 2021 census estimates, about a third of Benton County's population. It is on a set of rapids on the Mississippi River near its confluence with the Sauk River. Sauk Rapids is part of the St. Cloud metropolitan area. History Sauk Rapids was originally little more than a forest of oak, maple and basswood trees along the Mississippi River until the first home was constructed there in 1851, a large mansion named Lynden Terrace erected by W.H. Wood. Soon other settlers followed and the town was named Sauk Rapids after the rapids just below the Sauk River's mouth on the Mississippi. The new settlement was along the Red River Trails. Loogootee () is a city in Perry Township, Martin County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 2,751 at the time of the 2010 census. History Loogootee was established in 1853 when it was certain that a new railroad line would be extended to that point. The post office at Loogootee has been in operation since 1857. Etymology Several etymologies of the place name have been proposed. One would make it an Anglicization of the French name ''Le Gaultier''. However, the most likely explanation is that Loogootee is a compound word honoring both Thomas Lowe, engineer of the first train through the town; and Thomas Nesbe Gootee (1797–1870), owner of the land where the town was built. Martin County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 10,327. The county seat is Shoals at the center of the county, and the county's only incorporated city is Loogootee, on the county's western border. History The Indiana Territory achieved statehood near the end of 1816. Shortly thereafter, the new State legislature created Dubois (December 1817) and Daviess (February 1818) counties. Due to the inflow of settlers into southwest Indiana, and the difficulty of accessing the county seats of those counties, Martin County was partitioned off from parts of those counties, being authorized on 20 January 1820.
