Ray Westwood
Raymond William Westwood (14 April 1912 – 9 December 1981) was an English professional footballer who made over 300 appearances in the Football League for Bolton Wanderers as an inside forward. He was capped by England at international level and represented the Football League XI. Career Born in Amblecote, Westwood played professionally for Bolton Wanderers and Chester and made career totals of 339 Football League appearances and 127 goals. He also played non-League football for Stourbridge, Brierley Hill Alliance and Darwen. He won six caps for England and represented the Football League XI. Personal life Westwood was the nephew of footballer David Stokes and was the uncle of footballer Duncan Edwards. Amblecote
Amblecote is an urban village and one of the most affluent areas in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in the West Midlands, England. It lies immediately north of the historic town of Stourbridge, extending about one and a half miles from it, and is on the southwestern edge of the West Midlands conurbation. Historically, Amblecote was in the parish of Oldswinford, but unlike the rest of the parish (which was in Worcestershire) it was in Staffordshire, and as such was administered separately. Formerly an urban district in its own right, Amblecote was divided between the boroughs of Dudley and Stourbridge in 1966, with the area to the east of the railway line becoming part of Brierley Hill and the remainder going into Stourbridge. This is reflected in the area's postcodes, being split between the DY5 and DY8 postal districts. Duncan Edwards
Duncan Edwards (1 October 1936 – 21 February 1958) was an English footballer who played for Manchester United and the England national team. He was one of the Busby Babes, the young United team formed under manager Matt Busby in the mid-1950s, playing 177 matches for the club. He was noted for his physical strength, toughness, and level of authority on the pitch, and has been ranked amongst the toughest players of all time. One of eight players who died as a result of the Munich air disaster, he survived initially but succumbed to his injuries in hospital two weeks later. Many of his contemporaries have described him as one of the best, if not the best, players with whom they had played. The 1934–35 British Home Championship was a football tournament played between the British Home Nations during the 1934–35 season. Scotland and England shared the trophy after a dramatic final match in which the Scots beat England to claim a share of the cup after having seemingly come adrift following their early defeat to Ireland. It was England and Ireland who began strongest, England thumping the trophy-holders Wales 4–0 in Cardiff whilst the Irish defeated the Scots in Belfast 2–1. Scotland recovered in the second game, beating Wales 3–2 at home to reenter the race for the tournament as England beat Ireland in a close game in Liverpool to become favourites.
