Ray Sampson (hurler)
Raymond Sampson (born 1965) is an Irish former hurler who played at club level with Garryspillane and at inter-county level with the Limerick senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a forward. Career Sampson first came to prominence as a hurler at juvenile and underage levels with the Garryspillane club before eventually progressing onto the club's top adult team. During his club career he claimed championship medals in the junior and intermediate grades, while he also won two senior titles with the Limerick Club in New York. Sampson also represented the St. Flannan's College team in his youth and won consecutive All-Ireland Colleges Championship titles in 1982 and 1983, having earlier won consecutive Harty Cup titles. He first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Limerick minor hurling team in 1983, before winning a Munster Under-21 Championship title in 1986. Knocklong
Knocklong () is a small village situated in County Limerick, Republic of Ireland, Ireland, located on the main Limerick to Mitchelstown to Cork (city), Cork road. The population was 256 at the 2016 census. The 1986 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship was the 23rd staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964. Tipperary were the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Limerick in the Munster semi-final. On 14 September 1986, Galway won the championship following a 0-14 to 2-5 defeat of Wexford in the All-Ireland final. Kilkenny CBS were the defending champions, however, they were beaten by St Peter's College in the Leinster final. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Teams representing subdivisions of counties, such as Fingal GAA, Fingal and Down GAA, South Down have also participated at various times. Munster Under-21 Hurling Championship
The Munster GAA Hurling Under-20 Championship, known simply as the Munster Under-20 Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in the province of Munster. The championship was contested as the Munster Under-21 Championship between 1964 and 2018 before changing to an under-20 age category from 2019. It is sponsored by Bord Gáis Energy. The final, currently held in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during a three-week period, and the results determine which team receives the J. J. Kenneally Perpetual Memorial Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. New York Senior Hurling Championship
The New York Senior Hurling Championship is an annual competition between hurling clubs affiliated with the New York GAA. Most Gaelic Athletic Association clubs are based on the counties of Ireland, though sometimes players will play with a different team in New York from their own county. The final is played in Gaelic Park in the Bronx. The winning team is presented with the Michael Flannery Cup.
