Ray Robinson (ATSIC)
Ray 'Sugar Ray' Robinson was an Australian man who served as Deputy Chairperson of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission from 1996 to 2003. He resigned at a time when ATSIC was under enhanced scrutiny by the Howard Government, then in its third term. He was subject to investigation regarding his conduct as an administrator and board member of a number of Aboriginal organisations. He was convicted of an offence identified as a result of these investigations in September 2008, but on appeal the Queensland Court of Appeal quashed that conviction and ordered a retrial. In 2011, he was convicted on retrial and placed on a good behaviour bond. Walker Smith Jr. (May 3, 1921 – April 12, 1989), better known as Sugar Ray Robinson, was an American professional boxer who competed from 1940 to 1965. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. He is often regarded as the greatest boxer of all time, Pound for pound, pound-for-pound. Robinson was a dominant amateur, but his exact amateur record is not known. It is usually listed as 85–0 with 69 knockouts, 40 in the first round. However it has been reported he lost to Billy Graham (American boxer), Billy Graham and Patsy Pesca as a teenager under his given name, Walker Smith Jr. He turned professional in 1940 at the age of 19 and by 1951 had a professional record of 129–1–2 with 85 knockouts. Raymond John Robinson (8 July 1905 – 6 July 1982) was an Australian journalist and author, best known for his writings on cricket. Life and career Born in Melbourne, Robinson attended Brighton State School and joined the Melbourne ''Herald'' as a copy boy. Given a cadetship with the paper, he reported on Australian rules football and cricket from 1925. In 1925, he wrote to Plum Warner, the editor of ''The Cricketer'' magazine, complaining about its poor coverage of Australian cricket. Warner invited him to become the periodical's Australian correspondent, and Robinson continued contributing to it until the early 1980s. In 1930, Robinson was recruited to the editorial staff of a new daily paper, ''The Star''. Four years later, he accompanied the Australian team on its tour of England. Raymond Thomas Robinson, born at Charmouth, Dorset on 15 September 1940 and died at Taunton, Somerset on 13 November 2001, was a cricket and rugby union player. He played cricket for Somerset's second team between 1962 and 1971. But he made only one first-class cricket appearance. A right-handed middle order batsman and a successful bowler in club and second eleven cricket, Robinson's one first-class appearance was in the match against Nottinghamshire at Taunton in June 1964; he batted at No 8 in Somerset's first innings and at No 5 in the second, but failed to score in either innings, and he did not bowl in the match. Ray Robinson (born 1971 in Bedale, North Yorkshire) is a British novelist, screenwriter and musician. Career Robinson is a graduate of Liverpool School of Art, where he studied graphic design. Raymond Theodore Robinson (October 29, 1910 – June 11, 1985) was a disfigured American man whose years of nighttime walks made him into a figure of urban legend in western Pennsylvania. Robinson was so severely injured in a childhood electrical accident that he could not go out in public without fear of causing a panic, so he went for long walks at night. Local tourists would drive along his road in hopes of meeting the Green Man or Charlie No-Face; they became disappointed to see no such person. However, they passed on tales about him to their children and grandchildren regardless, and people raised on these tales are sometimes surprised to discover that he was a real person who was liked by his family and neighbors. Perry Ray Robinson (12 September 1937 – c. 25 April 1973) was an African-American activist from Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement. He had been active in Mississippi and Washington, D.C., supporting the March on Washington and the Poor People's Campaign. Robinson disappeared while participating in the 1973 American Indian Movement (AIM) resistance in the Wounded Knee incident on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Robinson's family never saw him again; his wife believed he was killed at the reservation, and struggled to get his disappearance investigated. In 2014, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that Robinson had been killed and buried on the reservation in April 1973; it released redacted documents to the Robinson family under a Freedom of Information Act suit, including redacted interviews with cooperating witnesses.
