Ray Morgan (announcer)
Raymond Storrs Morgan (May 5, 1914 – January 5, 1975) was an American radio and television announcer. Early life Morgan was born on May 5, 1914 in Trenton, New Jersey to Dr. and Mrs. Walter Morgan. He grew up in Oak Park, Illinois and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1935. On June 26, 1937 he married Ruie Rideout in Englewood, New Jersey. Morgan’s father officiated the services. Prior to going into radio, Morgan worked for McGraw Hill. Career Radio Morgan began his radio career in 1939 at WPG in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He then worked at WCOP in Boston and WBAB in Atlantic City before moving to WINX in Washington D.C. in 1941. During World War II he worked for the United States Office of War Information. After the war he joined WWDC, where he hosted ''Open House'' a daily program that aired from 10-11 a.m. He left the show in 1947 to become the secondary announcer for the Washington Senators alongside Arch McDonald. ''We the People'' (stylized onscreen as ''We The People'') is an American talk show aired on CBS Television (1948-1949) and then on NBC television, NBC Television (1949-1952). Broadcast history ''We the People'' was a 30-minute talk show, first on CBS for one season and then on NBC for two seasons. The host interviewed politicians, celebrities, and everyday people. The interviews tended to be "up close and personal", interviewing celebrities about difficulties they had to overcome. The non-celebrities were usually people who participated in some type of charitable work. The show was sponsored by Gulf Oil and produced by ''Life (magazine), Life'' magazine. WTTG (channel 5) is a television station in Washington, D.C., airing programming from the Fox network. It is owned and operated by the network's Fox Television Stations division alongside MyNetworkTV outlet WDCA (channel 20). WTTG and WDCA share studios on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, Maryland. ''The Magic Clown'' is an NBC TV series which ran from 1949 to 1954. The final NBC broadcast was on June 27, 1954. The show then moved to WABD where it stayed until 1958. After that, it was renamed ''Bonomo, The Magic Clown'' and was broadcast on WNTA from September 29, 1958 to July 24, 1959. The show was sponsored by Bonomo Turkish Taffy. Josh Norris, who used the stage name "Zovello", was the first Magic Clown, and went on to a successful career as a full-time magician. ''The Original Amateur Hour'' is an American radio and television program. The show was a continuation of ''Major Bowes Amateur Hour'' which had been a radio staple from 1934 to 1945. Major Edward Bowes, the originator of the program and its master of ceremonies, left the show in 1945 and died the following year. He was ultimately succeeded by Ted Mack, when the show was brought into television in 1948. Initially titled ''The Art Baker Show'', the program originally aired on American television between 1950 and 1959. Later versions of the series were seen in 1972, 1981, and 2000.
