Ray Meiklejohn
Raymond Harry Meiklejohn (; born November 7, 1935) is a Canadian retired politician and educator. Early life Meiklejohn was born on November 7, 1935 in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan to Robert James Meiklejohn and Ada Maria Woodbury. He received his primary and secondary education in Quill Lake. After graduating, Meiklejohn attended Saskatoon Teacher's College and the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a Bachelor of Education degree in 1965 and a postgraduate diploma in 1975. Prior to his entry into politics, Meiklejohn worked as a teacher and special education administrator in Saskatoon. Political career Meiklejohn ran unsuccessfully in the Kelvington-Wadena district in the 1978 provincial general election. He was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 1986 and served as the Progressive Conservative member for the Saskatoon Mayfair constituency until 1991. Quill Lake, Saskatchewan
Quill Lake ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Lakeside No. 338 and Census Division No. 10. It is 170 km east of Saskatoon and 200 km northeast of Regina on Highway 5. The village is located just to the northwest of the Quill Lakes. The Quill Lakes wetland complex is a designated Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network site where many migrating shorebirds stop during long migrations. Because of this the village is also known by its residents as the "Goose Capital of Saskatchewan". History Quill Lake was originally established as Lally, named after a railway official of the day. Later it was renamed Quill Lake to conform to the name of the post office. The community was built around the site which was originally the location of a log school house. Humboldt—Lake Centre was a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1979 to 1988. This riding was created in 1976 from parts of Mackenzie, Moose Jaw, Regina East, Regina—Lake Centre, Saskatoon—Biggar and Saskatoon—Humboldt ridings. The Meewasin Valley Authority is a conservation organization created by the Provincial Government of Saskatchewan in Canada and is dedicated to conserving the cultural and natural resources of the South Saskatchewan River Valley. The authority's activities include education, development and conservation. Donald Grant Devine, SOM (born July 5, 1944) was the 11th premier of Saskatchewan from May 8, 1982 to November 1, 1991.
