Ray Butt
Raymond William Butt (25 June 1935 – 12 July 2013) was a British television producer and Television director, director. He worked on several British sitcom, sitcoms for BBC television and became best known for ''Only Fools and Horses''. Early life Butt grew up in London as an only child with his mother and father. He left school at 16 and served in the Royal Air Force for his national service. Career He produced ''Only Fools and Horses'' until List of Only Fools and Horses episodes, Series 5, directing most episodes himself, when he moved onto new projects. He also worked on ''Last of the Summer Wine'' and ''Are You Being Served?''. Butt directed the 1976 two-part episode from ''Last of the Summer Wine's'' third series consisting of the episodes, "The Great Boarding House Bathroom Caper" and "Cheering up Gordon." A television producer is a person who oversees one or more aspects of video production on a television show, television program. Some producers take more of an executive role, in that they conceive new programs and pitch them to the television networks, but upon acceptance they focus on business matters, such as budgets and contracts. ''Just Good Friends'' is a British sitcom written by John Sullivan. It stars Paul Nicholas and Jan Francis as former lovers Vincent Pinner and Penny Warrender, who meet in a pub five years after he jilted her at the altar. Three series and a 90-minute Christmas special were produced for the BBC by Ray Butt. In 2004, it came 43rd in ''Britain's Best Sitcom''. Background Writer John Sullivan had previously written two successful sitcoms for the BBC, ''Citizen Smith'' and ''Only Fools and Horses''. ''Dear John'' is a British sitcom, written by John Sullivan. Two series and a special were broadcast in 1986 and 1987. The sitcom's title refers to "Dear John" letters, usually written by women to their partners as a means of ending a relationship. John discovers in the opening episode that his wife is leaving him for a friend. He is kicked out of his home, while still being expected to pay the mortgage, and forced to find lodgings. In desperation, he joins the 1-2-1 Singles Club and meets other people (whom one could describe as misfits), who have fared equally unfortunately in their romantic lives. The outside shots of houses were filmed in Melthorne Drive, South Ruislip. In 1988, an American adaptation of ''Dear John'' was produced by Paramount for the NBC network, starring Judd Hirsch. ''Citizen Smith'' is a British television sitcom written by John Sullivan, first broadcast from 1977 to 1980. It starred Robert Lindsay as Walter Henry "Wolfie" Smith, a young Marxist "urban guerrilla" in Tooting, south London, who is attempting to emulate his hero Che Guevara. Wolfie is a reference to the Irish revolutionary Wolfe Tone, who used the pseudonym "Citizen Smith" in order to evade capture by the British. Wolfie is the self-proclaimed leader of the revolutionary Tooting Popular Front (the TPF, merely a small bunch of his friends), the goals of which are "Power to the People" and "Freedom for Tooting". Romana Barrack (5 August 1928 – 31 May 2016), known professionally as Carla Lane, was an English television writer responsible for several successful British sitcoms, including ''The Liver Birds'' (co-creator, 1969–1979), ''Butterflies'' (1978–1983), and ''Bread'' (1986–1991). Lane was described as "the television writer who dared to make women funny"; much of her work focused on strong women characters, including "frustrated housewives and working class matriarchs". The Liver Birds
''The Liver Birds'' is a British sitcom, set in Liverpool, North West England, which aired on BBC1 from April 1969 to January 1979, and again in 1996. The show was created by Carla Lane and Myra Taylor. The two Liverpudlian housewives had met at a local writers club and decided to pool their talents. Having been invited to London by Michael Mills, the BBC's then Head of Comedy, and asked to write about two women sharing a flat, Mills brought in sitcom expert Sydney Lotterby to work with the writing team. Lotterby had previously worked with Eric Sykes and Sheila Hancock, and on ''The Likely Lads''. For the Liver Birds, Carla Lane wrote most of the episodes, Taylor co-writing only the first two series.
