Big L was the name of a short-lived broadcasting company registered by the British licensing authority Ofcom fro11 June 2002 to 10 June 2003for a satellite radio service known as Big L. The license stated that the station ''"… will provide an eclectic mix of rock and pop, both modern and classic. News and weather will be broadcast hourly. The service will be in English language and will be free to air."'' The station was owned by Big L Limited. Though the station targeted audience in the United Kingdom, advertisers developed their commercials mainly to reach English speakers in the Netherlands. Wonderful Radio London
Radio London, also known as Big L and Wonderful Radio London, was a top 40 (in London's case, the " Fab 40") offshore commercial station that operated from 23 December 1964 to 14 August 1967, from a ship anchored in the North Sea, off Frinton-on-Sea, Essex, England. The station, like other offshore radio operators, was dubbed a pirate radio station, and went off air following the introduction of the Marine, &c., Broadcasting (Offences) Act 1967 which made it illegal to supply or assist such stations except in an emergency. The station was notable for helping to launch the careers of various disc jockeys who went on to work at BBC Radio 1. ''Get Your Act Together with Harvey Goldsmith'' is a Channel 4 television programme in which promoter Harvey Goldsmith is given six months to help revive the fortunes of six entertainment businesses or performers. The acts and businesses he deals with are Irish singer and actress Samantha Mumba, husband and wife opera business ''Opera Anywhere'', heavy metal band Saxon, radio station Big L 1395, ''Deighton Working Men's Club'' and ''Paulo's'', Britain's oldest circus. He dealt with all simultaneously over a six-month period, but they are each given a separate show in the series. Harvey Goldsmith
Harvey Goldsmith (born 4 March 1946 in Edgware, Middlesex) is an English performing arts promoter. He is best known as a promoter of rock concerts, charity concerts, television broadcasts for the Prince's Trust and more recently the Teenage Cancer Trust shows at the Royal Albert Hall. In 1985, Goldsmith promoted the Live Aid concert held at Wembley Stadium in London. During early 2007, he appeared on the Channel 4 programme ''Get Your Act Together with Harvey Goldsmith''. In October the same year, he promoted a reunion concert for surviving members of Led Zeppelin in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, which was held at London's O2 Arena. Medium Wave
Medium wave (MW) is the part of the medium frequency (MF) radio band used mainly for AM radio broadcasting. The spectrum provides about 120 channels with more limited sound quality than FM stations on the FM broadcast band. During the daytime, reception is usually limited to more local stations, though this is dependent on the signal conditions and quality of radio receiver used. Improved signal propagation at night allows the reception of much longer distance signals (within a range of about 2,000 km or 1,200 miles). This can cause increased interference because on most channels multiple transmitters operate simultaneously worldwide. In addition, amplitude modulation (AM) is often more prone to interference by various electronic devices, especially power supplies and computers.
