Ravenswood Flo
Ravenswood Flo (1 March 2016 – 26 October 2023) was a black and white female greyhound. She won the 2018 Oaks, one of the original classic greyhound competitions. Early life Ravenswood Flo was sired by Laughil Blake from the dam Ravenswood May and was born on 1 March 2016. She was bred by the Barber family and subsequently reared and schooled by Paddy and Margaret Kehoe at the Forest kennels. Racing career Early career Following three trial runs at Towcester Stadium in January 2018, Ravenswood Flo made her competitive racing debut at the same track in an A6 on 27 January 2018. She won the race, run over 480 metres, in 28.85 seconds. This was followed up by a second successive victory; this time in an A5 race on 9 February 2018. Having achieved two further first-place finishes at A6 and A3 grade during the middle months of the year, she sprained her hock in August 2018 and consequently did not race again until November 2018. Kevin Richard Hutton (born 1981) is an English greyhound trainer. He is a four times United Kingdom champion Champion Trainer and 2018 Derby winning trainer. Profile He currently runs out of Towcester Greyhound Stadium (which he rejoined in May 2021) and his kennels are based at Burford. Previously he was attached to Swindon Stadium then Towcester, the latter from when it opened in 2014 until 2018. Following the closure of Towcester he joined Monmore and was there from August 2018 until May 2021. His biggest individual race successes include the Oaks, Puppy Derby and the Select Stakes. He reached the final of the 2013 English Greyhound Derby with Screen Critic. Oaks (greyhounds)
The Oaks is an original classic greyhound competition, held at Perry Barr Stadium. It was run at White City Stadium from 1927 until 1958, and gained classic status in September 1939, becoming the seventh classic race but due to the war it was suspended until 1945. The race was held at Harringay Stadium from 1959 until 1987 and then to Wimbledon Stadium in 1988 until 2012. In 2013 the Greyhound Racing Association (GRA) decided to move the event to sister track Belle Vue Stadium and just five years later, during 2018, it switched to Towcester following the decision by GRA to reduce their major race schedule. A sixth change of venue was necessary in 2018 following the sudden closure of Towcester, leading owner John Turner stepped in to save the event with a late scheduling being organised in December at Swindon Stadium. The English Greyhound, or simply the Greyhound, is a breed of dog, a sighthound which has been bred for coursing, greyhound racing and hunting. Towcester Greyhound Stadium
Towcester Greyhound Stadium is a greyhound racing track located within Towcester Racecourse at Towcester in Northamptonshire, England. It has been the home of the English Greyhound Derby since 2021, having previously hosted the event from 2017 to 2018. Opening Towcester opened on 6 December 2014 becoming the first track in Britain to open since the 1995 openings of Harlow and Sittingbourne. The idea of a track inside the horse racing course was created by Lord Hesketh the racecourse owner and Chief Executive Kevin Ackerman. Former Walthamstow Racing Manager Chris Page, Deputy Racing Manager Andy Lisemore and Steve Cale were recruited to run the operation. Henlow Stadium is a greyhound track located at Stondon, in the English county of Bedfordshire, slightly to the north of Hitchin. The stadium has a restaurant, a number of bars and a bistro. Racing takes place every Monday and Thursday morning, Tuesday evening and Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The 2018 UK & Ireland Greyhound Racing Year was the 93rd year of greyhound racing in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Roll of honour Summary The year revolved around two major events, the first was the ongoing battle for broadcasting rights between Satellite Information Services (SIS) and the Arena Racing Company (ARC). The second was the devastating news that Towcester racecourse, headed by Lord Hesketh was put into administration. On 23 August KPMG were appointed as administrators and 134 out of 137 members of staff at the racecourse were made redundant, many having to claim statutory redundancy from the government. The last greyhound meeting was on 12 August. On 13 November it was announced by the administrators that the racecourse's assets were being sold to a company called Fermor Land LLP. Swindon Stadium, also known as the Abbey Stadium, is a Greyhound Board of Great Britain regulated greyhound racing track and former speedway track in Blunsdon, Swindon, England. Greyhound racing currently takes place every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday as part of the ARC fixture schedule. Speedway The stadium was home to the Swindon Robins, who competed in the SGB Premiership until 2021. The speedway track has a circumference of 315 metres. Harlow Stadium
Harlow Stadium is a greyhound racing track located in Harlow, Essex, England. The stadium also has executive suites, a restaurant, a number of bars and conference and banqueting facilities. Racing takes place in the evening on Monday and Wednesday, and in the morning on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Opening Harlow Stadium opened on Wednesday 15 March 1995. The site chosen for racing was an area north east of the town known as the Pinnacles just off the Roydon Road and directly west of the football stadium. Access to the track is on Stadium Way past the Scimitar industrial park.
