Rauna Paadar-Leivo
Rauna Paadar-Leivo (born 1942) is an Inari Sami (people), Inari Sámi author who writes children's books, plays and novels in Northern Sámi. She currently lives in Inari, Finland, Inari and works at the Sami Parliament#In Finland, Sami Parliament in Finland. Her books have been translated into Finnish language, Finnish, Norwegian language, Norwegian, Russian language, Russian and Inari Sámi language, Inari Sámi. In 2000, the municipality of Inari awarded her its cultural prize. Northern Sámi
Northern or North Sámi ( ; se, davvisámegiella ; fi, pohjoissaame ; no, nordsamisk; sv, nordsamiska; disapproved exonym Lappish or Lapp) is the most widely spoken of all Sámi languages. The area where Northern Sámi is spoken covers the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland. The number of Northern Sámi speakers is estimated to be somewhere between 15,000 and 25,000. About 2,000 of these live in Finland and between 5,000 and 6,000 in Sweden, with the remaining portions being in Norway. Finnish Language
Finnish ( endonym: or ) is a Uralic language of the Finnic branch, spoken by the majority of the population in Finland and by ethnic Finns outside of Finland. Merja Aletta Ranttila
Merja Aletta Ranttila (b. 23 May 1960, Utsjoki, Finland) is a well-known Finnish Sámi visual artist, illustrator, and printmaker. Ranttila has made Sami culture known in various exhibitions in Finland and abroad. Early life and education Ranttila spent her childhood in Lemmenjoki. She has a mountain Sámi background, and Northern Sámi is her mother tongue. Ranttila studied at Lapland Art School from 1980 to 1982 and Rovaniemi Art and Craft School from 1982 to 1986. Career At the beginning of her career, Ranttila made illustrations for textbooks and fairy tales, and collections of short stories and novels. Her first illustration work was the 600 pictures of Davvi's textbook, which she did in 1980. She has also drawn postcards. Ranttilla was specially commissioned for Sámi subjects. Inari Sámi People
Inari or Aanaar Sámi are a group of Sámi people who inhabit the area around Lake Inari, Finland. They speak the Inari (Aanaar) Sámi language, which belongs to the eastern Sámi languages. There are an estimated 700–900 ethnic Inari Sámi in Finland, of whom approximately 300-400 speak Inari Sámi. They are the only group of Sámi who live within one state and one municipality.
