Rattu Cantonment
Rattu Cantonment is a century plus old cantonment located at Rattu in Astore district of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. It is located at an altitude of 9000 ft above sea level. During summer, the weather remains pleasant but winters are very cold and temperatures vary between ~20 °C to -35 °C. Rattu receives three to six feet snow during winter. The Army High Altitude School of Pakistan Army is based at Rattu Cantonment. The cantonment is surrounded by two rivers namely Kalapani and Mir Malik. Mountain craft training sites, river crossing sites and ski slopes are located within the cantonment. It also serves as the army base camp to communicate across other northern regions of Pakistan. Rattu
Rattu is a small village town located at the Astore district in the Northern Areas now known as Gilgit Baltistan of Pakistan. Rattu has been traditionally used as a route for traders going to Kashmir from Astore, Gilgit and others parts of present-day Gilgit Baltistan of Pakistan. Rattu is known for its delicacies: cumin (zeera, jeera, zira) and trout fish. Rattu is a busy town where agriculture includes cattle, pastures, and dairy products. Its people speak the Astori dialect of Shina. Rattu is home to adventure sports too, with a natural skiing slope and facilities for training in winter sports. Astore District ( ur, ) is one of the 14 districts of the Pakistani-administered territory of Gilgit−Baltistan. Its administrative headquarters are located at Eidgah in the Astore Valley. Northern Light Infantry
The Northern Light Infantry Regiment (NLI) is a light infantry regiment in the Pakistan Army, based and currently headquartered in Gilgit, Pakistan. Along with other forces of the Pakistani military, the NLI has the primary responsibility of conducting ground operations in the interest of defending the strategically-important territory of Gilgit−Baltistan, a Pakistani-controlled region that constitutes part of Kashmir, which has been disputed between Pakistan and India since 1947. The NLI draws a majority of its recruits from native tribes present in the nearby mountainous areas who are reportedly less prone to altitude sickness and the cold temperatures that characterize high-altitude mountain warfare, allowing the regiment to conduct its duties optimally. X Corps (Pakistan)
The X Corps is a corps of the Pakistan Army, currently assigned in Rawalpindi, Punjab Province of Pakistan. It is one of two corps that are currently active in Kashmir. One of its most important brigades, the 111th Infantry Brigade in Rawalpindi, is assigned Presidential Guard duties along with ceremonial duties for foreign dignitaries arriving in Pakistan.The current commander of this corps is Lt. Special Security Division
The 34th Light Infantry Division, also known as Special Security Division (SSD), is a 2-star Pakistan Army formation, raised in September 2016 as a response to major concerns over how to protect the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its workforce from serious internal and external threats. SSD has also bore the brunt of attacks by Baloch and Sindhi separatists.
