Cora Ratto
Corina (Cora) Eloísa Ratto de Sadosky (aka Cora Ratto, 1912–1981) was an Argentine mathematician, educator and militant activist in support of human and women's rights in Argentina and beyond. She played an important part in the Argentine University Federation supporting republican interests during the Spanish Civil War and helping victims of Falangist oppression. In 1941, following the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union, she established and headed the anti-fascist Junta de la Victoria which stood for democracy and women's suffrage. In 1965, Ratto founded ''Columna 10'', a journal denouncing the conduct of the United States in the Vietnam War. In the 1970s, she published a series of important mathematics text books. Patricia Ratto (born 1962) is an Argentine teacher and writer who lives and works in Tandil, a town in southern Buenos Aires Province. She has written and published the following novels: ''Pequeños hombres blancos'' (Adriana Hidalgo, 2006), ''Nudos'' (Adriana Hidalgo, 2008), and ''Trasfondo'' (Adriana Hidalgo, 2012). Writing ''Pequeños hombres blancos'' is the tale of a provincial teacher, set during the Dirty War, Argentine dictatorship of the 1970s. The heroine of ''Nudos'' is a social worker whose job opens onto a whole set of stories from figures on the margins of Argentine society. Teresa Ratto
Teresa Ratto (1877-1906) was an Argentine physician. She was the second female doctor in Argentina, and the first from Entre Ríos Province. Ratto was the first woman accepted at the Colegio del Uruguay, and became the first woman to receive her bachelor's degree from there in 1895. She earned her medical degree in 1903 from the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires. While studying there she began the Centro de Universitarias, one of the first feminist organizations in Argentina. As a doctor she became head of vaccination at the Asistencia Pública of Buenos Aires and later returned to Concepción del Uruguay to practice medicine there.
