Rathdown School is an independent all-girl day and boarding school in Glenageary, Dublin, Ireland operating under Church of Ireland management. The school provides pre-school, junior and senior level education. Located on a 16-acre site, about 12 kilometres from Dublin City Centre, Rathdown is consistently ranked among the top schools in Ireland. The school's colours are blue and green. History Rathdown School was founded in 1973 from an amalgamation of three schools: Park House School, The Hall School and Hillcourt School, and subsequently Glengara Park School in 1987. In the United Kingdom, private schools or independent schools are fee-charging schools, some endowed and governed by a board of governors and some in private ownership. Sandford Park School
Sandford Park School is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational secondary school, located in Ranelagh, Dublin, Ireland. It was founded in 1922. History The school was founded in 1922 by Alfred Le Peton, who served as its first headmaster. He had previously served as joint headmaster of Earlsfort House School alongside Ernest Exshaw. It was decided to move the school from the terraced city-centre property of Earlsfort House to the 2.5 hectare Ranelagh property of Sandford Park, originally designed in 1894 by Thomas Edmund Hudman for James P. Pile, a property developer and Hudman’s brother-in-law. The school was founded as non-denominational, to contrast with the majority of schools in Ireland at the time, which had religious patronages. Miss World 2003
Miss World 2003 was the 53rd edition of the Miss World pageant, held at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China on 6 December 2003. At the end of the event, Azra Akın of Turkey crowned Rosanna Davison of Ireland as Miss World 2003. It is Ireland's first victory in the history of the pageant. Contestants 106 contestants competed in this year's pageant, surpassing the previous record of 95 contestants in 2000. The pageant was hosted by Phil Keoghan, Amanda Byram, and Angela Chow. Rosanna Davison
Rosanna Diane Davison (born 17 April 1984) is an Irish actress, singer, writer, model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss World 2003. She is the daughter of musician Chris de Burgh, and the song "For Rosanna" was written by her father for his 1986 album, '' Into the Light'' in her honour. Ruth Frances Long, also known as R.F. Long and Jessica Thorne, (20 April 1971) is an Irish author who writes in the fantasy and romance genres. Her novel, ''The Stone's Heart'' by Jessica Thorne, was nominated for the Romantic Novelists' Association Fantasy Romantic Novel award. Her latest series, ''The Hollow King'', began with ''Mageborn'', while she has also had several individual novels published. Vivienne McKechnie is an Irish writer and poet based in Limerick. She has also been an organiser of the Limerick Literary Festival. Biography Born Vivienne Darling in Dublin to Dr. Desmond Darling and Audrey Darling (née Butler), she had three sisters. Annette Jocelyn Otway-Ruthven
Annette Jocelyn Otway-Ruthven (7 November 1909 – 18 March 1989) was an Irish historian specialising in medieval Irish history, and was among the earliest female academics appointed in Trinity College Dublin. Family Otway-Ruthven was the daughter of Captain Robert Mervyn Bermingham Otway-Ruthven (1867–1919), Royal Artillery, of Castle Otway, County Tipperary, and Margaret Casement (d. 1953), of Cronroe, County Wicklow. She had three sisters and a brother; two of her sisters died young. Through her mother Otway-Ruthven was related to Roger Casement. Noelle Middleton
Evelyn Noelle Woodeson (née Middleton; 18 December 1926 – 30 January 2016) was an Irish actress and one of the first BBC television announcers. She was also a leading lady of the 1950s British films. Camille Souter
Camille Souter (born Betty Pamela Holmes, 1929) is an Irish abstract and landscape artist. She lives and works on Achill Island and has been an elected member of Aosdána since 1981. Early life Souter was born Betty Pamela Holmes in Northampton, England, in 1929 but she was raised in Ireland. Souter received a general education at Glengara Park School in Dun Laoghaire. She originally trained as a nurse at Guy's Hospital in London. Souter began painting, after attending art classes as part of occupational therapy whilst she recovered from tuberculosis on the Isle of Wight. Although largely self-taught, Souter took up sculpture in 1950 as her convalescence continued in Dublin. She was trained there by Yann Renard-Goulet.
