Armand-Albert Rateau
Armand-Albert Rateau (born 24 February 1882 in Paris; died there 20 February 1938) was a French furniture maker and interior designer. In 2006, ''The Grove Encyclopedia of Decorative Arts'' characterized him as "the most eminent of the ensembliers, the high-style designer-decorators" who worked with luxury materials for the socially elite.Campbell (2006), 254. In 2012, '' Architectural Digest'' described him as "one of the most exclusive interior designers of the 1920s." Two of his more notable achievements are the bronze furniture of his manufacture and the designs he assembled in decorating the apartment of Jeanne Lanvin. Career Rateau was born in 1882. Trained at the École Boulle, Rateau took a formative trip with friends in 1914 to Naples and Pompei, visiting museums and archaeological sites.Christie's (2013). Auguste Rateau
Auguste Rateau (13 October 1863 – 13 January 1930) was an engineer and industrialist born in Royan, France, specializing in turbines. Biography After studies, first at the École Polytechnique and then at the École des Mines de Paris, he began his career as a teacher at the École des Mines de Saint-Étienne from 1888 to 1897. He then embarked on an industrial career exploiting turbines. He manufactured fans for mines, blowers for steel mills, water pumps, and steam turbines for ships. To this end, he created a design office in Paris and, in 1903, the ''Société pour l’exploitation des appareils Rateau'', which moved in 1917 to La Courneuve where he opened a factory two years later. The company has since been integrated into Alstom, and La Courneuve's premises are still operated by GE Power Service. Jean-Pierre Rateau
Jean-Pierre Lamotte-Rateau (24 April 1800 – 22 March 1887) was a French lawyer and politician who represented the department of Charente in the Constituent Assembly and then the Legislature during the French Second Republic. He is known as author of the Rateau proposal to dissolve the Constituent Assembly before all the organic laws had been passed, this preventing any reduction in the powers of the President Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. Early years (1800–48) Jean-Pierre Lamotte-Rateau was born on 24 April 1800 in Aubeterre, Charente. He studied law and obtained a degree at the Faculty of Paris in 1820. He joined the bar in Bordeaux on 10 December 1821, and became known as a strong speaker. He became involved in politics. He supported the government of Louis-Philippe, but sided with the dynastic opposition in asking for electoral reform to add capabilities. Michel Rateau
Michel Rateau (born 4 September 1938 in Paris, France) is a French composer. Biography Michel Rateau began studying solfège and piano at the age of five at Notre Dame de France in Vanves, France. At the same age, he composed his first work in his parents' kitchen using everyday objects. Rateau attended a number of music courses throughout his childhood, studying under Sister Marie-Laurent up to the age of 11; then taking private piano courses with the organist Jean Boguet up to the age of 15. He then attended the classes of Jacques Février and Jean Doyen. Attracted to Composition, Rateau enrolled in the Conservatoire de Paris in 1959. He attended the classes of André Jolivet and Jean Rivier and begin studying under the supervision of the CNSM Professor of Harmony, Maurice Duruflé. He passed the Musical Education, CAPES (upper national teaching diploma) in 1960 and carried out National Military Service in the Band of the 93rd Infantry Regiment at Mont Valerien from 1962 ...
