Ratchadaphisek Road ( th, ถนนรัชดาภิเษก, ) is a major road in Bangkok, Thailand. Conceived in 1971 and opened in 1976, it connects earlier portions including Asok Montri, Wong Sawang and Charan Sanitwong Roads to form the city's inner ring road system. The road's name comes from the celebration 25th year of a monarch's reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Ratchadaphisek Road crosses major traffic arteries such as Sukhumvit Road and Sirat Expressway. Ratchadaphisek entertainment district The Ratchadaphisek district stretches from the junction with Rama IX Road to the one with Sutthisan Winitchai Road. It is a well-known entertainment area, including shopping complexes such as The Esplanade, cinema complexes such as Major Cineplex, a night bazaar, and night markets as well as love hotels. Din Daeng ( th, ดินแดง, ) is one of the Districts of Bangkok, 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. Its neighbours, clockwise from north, are Chatuchak district, Chatuchak, Huai Khwang district, Huai Khwang, Ratchathewi district, Ratchathewi, and Phaya Thai district, Phaya Thai. 250px, Wong Sawang Station interior Wong Sawang ( th, วงศ์สว่าง, ) is a ''khwaeng'' (subdistrict) of two subdistricts of Bang Sue District, Bangkok, apart from Bang Sue Subdistrict. It is also the name of the surrounding area. History The name "Wong Sawang" is derived from a road in same name that passes through the area. It is assumed that the name comes from the surname of the chief construction engineer. Wong Sawang is a road that is now considered part of Ratchadaphisek Road (Inner Ring Road). The Esplanade is a shopping and entertainment complex on Ratchadaphisek Road in Din Daeng district, Bangkok, with a second branch on Rattanathibet Road in Nonthaburi. History Anchored by the Esplanade Cineplex, the shopping mall opened in December 2006. The cineplex hosted the 5th World Film Festival of Bangkok in October 2007. With a retail space of more than 100,000 square metres, the seven-floor complex includes the 12-screen Esplanade Cineplex with 3,000 seats, a B2S book shop along with other shops and restaurants.
