General officer, General Rashad Mahmood Nishan-e-Imtiaz, NI(M) ( ur, ), is a retired Four-star rank, four-star Pakistan Army, army general in the Pakistan Army who served as the 15th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. He was appointed as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan by prime minister Nawaz Sharif on November 27, 2013. He retired on November 27, 2016. Biography He was commissioned in 1979 in 7th Battalion of the Baloch Regiment. He is from Arian family. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani (Urdu: ; born 20 April 1952), is a retired four-star general of the Pakistan Army who served as the 8th Chief of Army Staff , being appointed on 29 November 2007 after his predecessor Pervez Musharraf retired from his military service and remained in the office until 29 November 2013. The ''Hilaal-e-Imtiaz'' (; ), also spelled and transliterated as Hilāl-e-Imtiyāz, is the second-highest (in the hierarchy of "Hilal") civilian award and honour given to both civilians and military officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces by the Government of Pakistan. It recognises individuals who have made an "especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of Pakistan, world peace, cultural or other significant public endeavors". It is a civilian award, and not limited to the citizens of Pakistan. Chief of General Staff (abbreviated as CGS) is the most coveted position within the Pakistan Army after that of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
