Rashad Ahmadov
Rashad Ahmadov ( az, Rəşəd Əhmədov; born January 5, 1981, in Yevlakh) is an Azerbaijani taekwondo practitioner. He is a four-time medalist at the European Taekwondo Championships, and a two-time bronze medalist for the welterweight division at the World Taekwondo Championships (2003 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany and 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark). Ahmadov made his official debut for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he competed in the men's welterweight category (80 kg). He defeated Trinidad and Tobago's Chinedum Osuji and France's Christophe Negrel in the first two rounds, before losing out the semi-final match by a superiority decision to Turkey's Bahri Tanrıkulu. Ahmadov was eventually beaten by Iran's Youssef Karami in a close match for the bronze medal, with the final score of 8–9. Yevlakh ( az, Yevlax, ) is a city in Azerbaijan, 265 km west of capital Baku. It is surrounded by, but administratively separate from, the Yevlakh District. The men's 80 kg competition in taekwondo at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing took place on August 22 at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition. Bahri Tanrıkulu
Bahri Tanrıkulu (born March 16, 1980 in Ankara, Turkey) is a Turkish taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the Men's 80 kg division at the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece and won the silver medal. He studied at Akdeniz University. He is Turkey's first World and European Taekwondo champion. He was a member of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club before he transferred to Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kağıt Spor Kulübü. The tall athlete is student of physical education and sports at Akdeniz University. He qualified for participation at the 2012 Summer Olympics where he reached the semi final. Personal life Bahri is the eldest of four siblings in a family originating from Diyarbakır. His brothers Tunç and Çağrı, as well as his sister Azize perform taekwondo. Christophe Negrel
Christophe Negrel (born May 25, 1977 in Marseille) is a French taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the men's welterweight category. He picked up a total of eight medals in his career, including three from the European Championships and a silver in the 70-kg division from the 1997 World Taekwondo Championships in Hong Kong, and attained a top eight finish at the 2004 Summer Olympics, representing his nation France. Throughout his sporting career, Negrel trained full-time for La Rose Boxing and Taekwondo Club in his native Marseilles, and also became a full-fledged member of the French taekwondo squad since 1996, under head coach and master Philippe Pinard.
