Rapp Rp III
The Rapp Rp III was a six-cylinder, SOHC valvetrain water-cooled inline aircraft engine built by Rapp Motorenwerke. Its design had been based on the previous Rapp 100 hp four-cylinder engine. Design and development When the Rapp Motorenwerke were founded on 27 October 1913 Karl Rapp immediately concentrated on designing new aircraft engines. Besides the Rapp 100 hp four-cylinder, an improved version of FD 1416 engine he had designed previously at Flugwerk Deutschland, he also worked on an six-cylinder aircraft engine for the second Kaiserpreis contest for aviation engines.Pletschacher. 1992. pp. 124–125 This 125 hp engine however was not completed on time for the ''Kaiserpreis'' and further development led to the 150 hp Rapp six-cylinder engine in 1914. A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is a Wikimedia movement affinity group for contributors with shared goals. The Imperial German Navy or the Imperial Navy () was the navy of the German Empire, which existed between 1871 and 1919. It grew out of the small Prussian Navy (from 1867 the North German Federal Navy), which was mainly for coast defence. Kaiser Wilhelm II greatly expanded the navy. Deutsche Flugzeug-Werke, usually known as DFW, was a German aircraft manufacturer of the early twentieth century. It was established by Bernhard Meyer and Erich Thiele at Lindenthal in 1910, and initially produced Farman designs under licence, later moving on to the Etrich Taube and eventually to its own designs. Lohner Type L
The Lohner L was a reconnaissance flying boat produced in Austria-Hungary during World War I. It was a two-bay biplane of typical configuration for the flying boats of the day, with its pusher engine mounted on struts in the interplane gap. The pilot and observer sat side by side in an open cockpit, and both the upper and lower sets of wings featured sweepback. Development The design was essentially a more powerful version of the Lohner E, and became highly influential. Apart from licensed production by UFAG, the L provided the basis for designs by other major manufacturers. In Germany, Hansa-Brandenburg manufactured a modified version of it as their first flying boat, the , and in Italy, a captured example was used as a pattern aircraft by Macchi, who produced it as the L.1.
