Dashboard Confessional is an American rock band from Boca Raton, Florida, led by singer Chris Carrabba. The name of the band is derived from the songThe Sharp Hint of New Tears off their debut album, ''The Swiss Army Romance''. History Early history (1999–2002) Dashboard Confessional's first recording was the 2000 album ''The Swiss Army Romance'', initially a solo side project of Chris Carrabba while he was in the band Further Seems Forever. The following year, Further Seems Forever, with Chris Carrabba, recorded its debut album, ''The Moon Is Down''. Carrabba left the band before the album was released to record and release his second solo album, ''The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most'', and a follow-up EP, ''So Impossible''; both were released under the name Dashboard Confessional. ''A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar'' is the third studio album by American band Dashboard Confessional. Background Dashboard Confessional started as the one-man acoustic project of vocalist/guitarist Chris Carrabba. The project's second album ''The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most'' (2001), released through independent label Vagrant Records, featured a full band on a few of the songs. The album become Vagrant's best-selling release. Lead single "Screaming Infidelities" became a hit at modern rock radio stations. The ''So Impossible EP'', made in collaboration with guitarist Dan Hoerner of Sunny Day Real Estate, was released in December. It was followed by a companion piece, the '' Summers Kiss EP'' in April 2002. The song was released on May 31, 2004 as the lead single from the Spider-Man 2 (soundtrack), soundtrack of the film ''Spider-Man 2''. The song was included on Dashboard Confessional's fourth studio album, ''Dusk and Summer'' (2006) as a bonus track on some pressings and on deluxe edition versions. Played over the film's end credits, "Vindicated" is the theme for the film. History Initially, a song titled "I Need a Sure Thing" was to be used on the ''Spider-Man 2'' soundtrack; but, after having received a special screening of the film, Carrabba penned "Vindicated" in 10 minutes, inspired by and reflecting the theme of the film.
