Rapeman Albums
Rapeman was a short-lived American noise rock band founded in 1987 and disbanded in 1989. It consisted of Steve Albini (formerly of Big Black) on guitar and vocals, David Wm. Sims (formerly of Scratch Acid and simultaneously of the Jesus Lizard) on bass and Rey Washam (formerly of Scratch Acid and Big Boys) on drums. Their sound was also described by some as post-hardcore. Rapeman were formed as a parallel sister project to The Jesus Lizard, although they outlasted Rapeman by several years. History Rapeman was formed in 1987 when drummer Rey Washam and bassist David Wm. Sims relocated to Chicago from Texas after the breakup of their band Scratch Acid. Steve Albini had just ended his group Big Black, and was looking to switch to a musical project with a live drummer, instead of his Roland TR-606 drum machine. The Jesus Lizard
The Jesus Lizard is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Austin, Texas and based in Chicago, Illinois. They were "a leading noise rock band in the American independent underground… hoturned out a series of independent records filled with scathing, disembowelling, guitar-driven pseudo-industrial noise, all of which received positive reviews in underground music publications and heavy college-radio play." After a brief run as a recording-only project based in Austin, founding vocalist David Yow, bassist David Wm. The Rapeman
is a Japanese satirical black comedy manga series. It is credited as being created and written by , and illustrated by , and ran from 1985 to 1992. The series was discontinued after 13 volumes. Pink Pineapple produced nine ''Rapeman'' live action feature films (including six sequels and two spin-off films), released between 1993 and 1996. The first seven were directed by Takao Nagaishi and the final two were directed by Naoki Uesugi. In their ''Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia: The Sex Films'', the Weissers write that series director, Takao Nagaishi, took "a patently offensive premise and twisted it into a wickedly funny black-comedy for adults ... Sub Pop is a record label founded in 1986 by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman. ''Two Nuns and a Pack Mule'' is the only studio album by the Chicago noise rock band Rapeman, released by Touch & Go Records on August 23, 1988. The CD re-release contained the '' Budd'' extended play in its entirety. Reception The indie music press largely applauded the album as the much awaited studio follow-up to Albini’s work with Big Black. Budd (EP)
''Budd'' is the first release by the Chicago noise rock band Rapeman. The first three songs on the EP were recorded live. The title is a reference to Budd Dwyer, a politician who committed suicide during a televised press conference. The lyrics of the title track contain references to phrases used during the incident. It has been re-released as bonus tracks at the end of ''Two Nuns and a Pack Mule'', the band's only LP. Studio versions of the first three tracks were originally planned to be used, but the band later decided in favour of live versions. The demo tracks are currently available in trading circles. The Roland TR-606 Drumatix is a drum machine built by the Roland Corporation from 1981 to 1984. It was originally designed to be used with the Roland TB-303, a monophonic analog bass synthesizer, to provide a simple drum and bass accompaniment to guitarists without backing bands. History The TB-303 and TR-606 launched in 1981 as a matched pair to provide solo artists the chance to practice without other individuals, solely using the TR-606 and TB-303 as drums and bass lines to practice to, but the programming and artificial sounds made the boxes uncomfortable to use and they soon lost their luster. Colin Larkin (writer)
Colin Larkin (born 1949) is a British writer and entrepreneur. He founded, and was the editor-in-chief of, the ''Encyclopedia of Popular Music'', described by ''The Times'' as "the standard against which all others must be judged". Along with the ten-volume encyclopedia, Larkin also wrote the book ''All Time Top 1000 Albums'', and edited the ''Guinness Who's Who of Jazz'', the ''Guinness Who's Who of Blues'', and the ''Virgin Encyclopedia Of Heavy Rock''. It was created by Paul Williams, a Swarthmore College student at the time, in response to the increasing sophistication and cultural influence of popular music. Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression.
