Rape Crisis Scotland
Rape Crisis Scotland is a charity which provides a national rape crisis helpline and email support for anyone affected by sexual violence, no matter when or how it happened. There are 17 local centres across Scotland. Services Contact with centres typically takes place via a variety of methods, predominantly by phone and text. The Rape Crisis Movement began in the 1970s and there are also Rape Crisis centres in England and Wales. The presence of Rape Crisis Centres empowers women to speak out about their experiences of sexual violence. Rape Crisis Scotland offer the Equally Safe in Higher Education (ESHE) Toolkit training to staff at colleges and universities across Scotland in partnership with their local Rape Crisis Centres, and other Gender-Based Violence organisations. Sheila Gilmore
Sheila Gilmore (born 1 October 1949) is a British Labour Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Edinburgh East from 2010 to 2015. Gilmore stood for the seat following the decision of Gavin Strang to stand down; she is a former City of Edinburgh councillor. Childhood and early career Gilmore was born in Aberdeen in 1949. She moved to Edinburgh in 1956. She studied History and Politics at the University of Kent at Canterbury. Scottish Women's Aid is the lead domestic abuse organisation in Scotland. Shakti Women’s Aid
Shakti Women’s Aid, based in Edinburgh in Scotland, helps black and minority ethnic women, children, and young people who have experienced, domestic abuse. They work closely with the Scottish Government, Police Scotland, NHS Scotland, and other statutory and voluntary services. They provide helpline services for user and consultancy for other agencies. Mridul Wadhwa
Mridul Machindra Wadhwa (born 1978) is an Indian-born Scottish women's rights, trans rights and anti-domestic violence campaigner. She serves as Chief Executive Officer of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre. She is a member of the Scottish Green Party and was formerly active in the Scottish National Party and a candidate in the 2021 Scottish Parliament election.
