Harry Rankin
Harry Rankin (May 8, 1920 – February 26, 2002) was a Vancouver lawyer and long term member of the Vancouver City Council. Early years Rankin was born Harry Riffkin in Vancouver to secular Jewish immigrants from Ukraine. His father worked at a factory while his mother grew up in Glasgow's working class Jewish community. At 14, Rankin dropped out of secondary school to work in a bakery and through the trade union he got involved in politics. During World War Two he served in the Canadian Army with Vancouver's Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. He attained the rank of sergeant and was wounded on 23 May 1944 during the Battle of the Hitler Line. Rankin married a Jewish divorcee, and they had a son, Phil Rankin, who went on to become a Vancouver lawyer. George Claus Rankin
Sir George Claus Rankin PC (12 August 1877 – 8 April 1946) was a British judge in India. Rankin was born in Lamington, Lanarkshire, the son of Rev. Robert Rankin. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated M.A., and where his essay on “Democracy in literature” was awarded the Edinburgh University Club of London Triennial Prize in 1898, and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was admitted at Lincoln's Inn and called to the bar in 1904. He served in the First World War with the Royal Garrison Artillery. He went to India in 1918 and served first as a puisne judge of the High Court of Calcutta, and then as Chief Justice, from 1926 to 1934. George Rankin
George James Rankin, (1 May 1887 – 28 December 1957) was an Australian soldier and politician. He served in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, representing the Country Party of Australia. Early life Rankin was born at Bamawm, Victoria, the tenth child of Irish farmer James Rankin and Sarah, née Gallagher. He attended the local state school and became a farmer. In 1907, he joined the Militia, and was commissioned in the 9th Light Horse Regiment in 1909. He married Annie Isabella Oliver at Rochester, Victoria on 7 July 1912. In 1914, he was appointed a lieutenant of the Australian Imperial Force and posted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment. Military service Rankin served in the 4th Light Horse Regiment and reached Gallipoli in May 1915, was wounded in July, became a captain in December, and a major in March 1916. Frank Rankin
Frank Gilchrist Rankin (April 1, 1891 – July 23, 1932) was a Canadian ice hockey player and coach. As a player, Rankin played the rover position for the Toronto Eaton's and Toronto St. Michael's Majors in senior hockey between 1910 and 1914. Rankin later coached the Toronto Granites to the gold medal for Canada at the 1924 Winter Olympics. Personal Rankin was one of ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rankin of Stratford, Ontario. He had seven brothers: Charles, Jimmy, George, Gordon, Reginald, Sid and Fred, and two sisters, Annie and Nellie. Rankin was conscripted into the Canadian military on November 2, 1918 for the First World War, but an armistice was signed on November 11 so he did not actively serve. Doris Marie Rankin (August 24, 1887 – March 18, 1947) was an American stage and film actress. Biography Born in New York City, Rankin was the daughter of actor McKee Rankin and Mabel Bert. She was married to actor Lionel Barrymore from 1904 to 1922. Doris had two older half-sisters from her father's marriage to Kitty Blanchard: Gladys Rankin who was married to Lionel's uncle Sidney Drew and Phyllis Rankin who was married to Harry Davenport of the Davenport theatrical family. Darrell T. Rankin (born February 14, 1957) is a Canadian peace activist and former communist politician. He was briefly the leader of the Communist Party of Canada (Ontario) in 1995, and formerly led the Communist Party of Canada (Manitoba) from 1996 to 2019. His partner, Cheryl-Anne Carr, was also active with the Communist Party. Rankin left the Communist Party in 2019. Christopher Rankin (1788March 14, 1826) was an attorney and politician from Pennsylvania, who moved to the Mississippi Territory in 1809. He was a delegate to the state constitutional convention in 1817, and was later elected as a U.S. representative for several terms, serving from 1819 to 1826.
