Rangi Joass
William Joass (1889–1964) nicknamed "Rangi" was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1910s and 1920s. He played for Western Suburbs Magpies, Western Suburbs in the NSWRL competition. Playing career Joass made his first grade debut for Western Suburbs in Round 2 1911 against Newtown Jets, Newtown. In the same year, Joass was selected to play for New South Wales and scored a try on his representative debut against Queensland which ended in The Blues winning 49–0. Joass was also selected to play for Metropolis in 1911. Joass remained a loyal player to Wests even though the club remained towards the bottom of the ladder. Joass was part of 4 wooden spoon sides in 1912, 1913, 1915, and 1916. In 1918, Joass played 14 games as Western Suburbs finished as runners up. In 1919, Joass earned his last representative call up when he was selected to play for New South Wales. The Western Suburbs Magpies (legal name: Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club Ltd) are an Australian rugby league football club based in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in 1908, Wests, as they are commonly referred to, were one of the nine foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia. The club, as a sole entity, departed the top-flight competition in 1999 after forming a 50–50 joint venture with Balmain Tigers to form the Wests Tigers. The club currently fields sides in the NSW State Cup (Canterbury Cup), Ron Massey Cup (Opens), S.G. Ball Cup (Under 18's) and Harold Matthews Cup (Under 16's) competitions. New South Wales Rugby League Team
The New South Wales rugby league team has represented the Australian state of New South Wales in rugby league football since the sport's beginnings there in 1907. Also known as the Blues due to their sky blue jerseys, the team competes in the annual State of Origin series. This annual event is a series of three games competing for the State of Origin shield. As of 2022, the team is coached by Brad Fittler and captained by James Tedesco. Prior to 1980 when the "state-of-origin" selection criteria were introduced, the New South Wales team, in addition to playing annually against Queensland, played matches against foreign touring sides and occasionally toured overseas themselves. The Sydney Rugby League team, known as the City Rugby League team, or Combined Sydney, or Sydney Firsts, or Sydney Capitals, is a representative rugby league team. From 2021, the men's team is to consist of players selected from the New South Wales Rugby League Ron Massey Cup competition to play against a combined team selected from Country, New South Wales competitions. The women's team is selected on a region of origin basis from the NSWRL Women's Premiership. Newtown Jets
The Newtown Jets are an Australian rugby league football club based in Newtown, a suburb of Sydney's inner west. They currently compete in the NSW Cup competition, having left the top grade after the 1983 NSWRFL season. The Jets' home ground is Henson Park, and their team colours are blue (traditionally royal blue) and white. Established in 1908, Newtown were one of the founding members of the New South Wales Rugby Football League.
