Rangakarmee – A Tradition, A Culture, A Movement is a noted Indian theatre group, based in Kolkata. The theatre group was founded in January, 1976 by Usha Ganguly. They spearhead Hindi theatre in Kolkata, they have also staged Bengali plays. Rangakarmee, believes in Theatre with a Mission. Its primary aim is to create awareness about the rampant insensitivity and practice of injustice to which women and other weak sections of society often fall victim. To carry its message to the audience Rangakarmee, under the able guidance of Usha Ganguli, created a language of its own – a style of communication solely dependent on theatre, which can cross the barrier of languages spoken by different communities within India and abroad. Presently Smt Tripty Mitra is the Creative Director , Hirakendu Ganguli is the President and Anirudh Sarkar is the Secretary. Usha Ganguly
Usha Ganguli (1945 – 23 April 2020) was an Indian theatre director-actor and activist, most known for her work in Hindi theatre in Kolkata in the 1970s and 1980s. She founded '' Rangakarmee'' theatre group in 1976, known for its productions like ''Mahabhoj'', ''Rudali'', ''Court Martial'', and ''Antaryatra''. Apart from thespian Shyamanand Jalan of '' Padatik'' (established 1972), she was the only other theatre director to practise Hindi theatre in Kolkata, which is largely Bengali speaking. She was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Direction, given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama in 1998. She was also honoured by the West Bengal Government as the best actress for the play ''Gudia Ghar''. Hindi Theatre
Hindi theatre is theatre performed in the Hindi language, including dialects such as Braj Bhasha, Khari Boli and Hindustani. Hindi theatre is produced mainly in North India, and some parts of West India and Central India, which include Mumbai and Bhopal. Bengali Theatre
Bengali theatre primarily refers to theatre performed in the Bengali language. Bengali theatre is produced mainly in West Bengal, and in Bangladesh. The term may also refer to some Hindi theatres which are accepted by the Bengali people. Bengali theatre has its origins in British rule. It began as private entertainment in the early 19th century. In the pre-independence period, Bengali theatres played a pivotal role in manifesting dislike of the British Raj. After the independence of India in 1947, leftist movements in West Bengal used theatre as a tool for social awareness. Anirudh Sarkar
Aniruddha ( sa, अनिरुद्ध ') is a character in Hindu mythology, the son of Pradyumna and Rukmavati, and the grandson of Krishna and Rukmini. He is said to have been very much like his grandfather, to the extent that he is considered by some to be a ''Jana avatar'', an avatar of Vishnu. He is a member of the chatur-vyuha, the four Vrishni heroes. Early life Anirudha was born to Pradyumna and Rukmavati. He was the grandson of Krishna and Rukmini.
