Randolph Field Independent School District is a public school district based in Universal City, Texas (USA). Mission statement The purpose of education at Randolph Field ISD is to prepare individuals to be continual learners who are successful, productive, responsible citizens. To achieve this purpose, students will access and process information, solve problems, and communicate, working as individuals and as team members, using technology to facilitate their learning. District Information The district serves the children of local military and DoD personnel. So long as a parent or guardian is assigned to Joint-Base San Antonio, the student does not have to physically reside on the base to attend Randolph schools; however, the student must be accepted on a transfer basis in such cases. Randolph Air Force Base
Randolph Air Force Base was an United States Air Force base located at Universal City, Texas ( east-northeast of Downtown San Antonio). Opened in 1931, Randolph has been a flying training facility for the United States Army Air Corps, the United States Army Air Forces, and the Air Force during its entire existence. On 1 October 2010, Randolph AFB merged with Lackland Air Force Base and the US Army's Fort Sam Houston to form Joint Base San Antonio. Naming Randolph AFB was named after Captain William Millican Randolph, a native of Austin, who was on the base naming committee at the time of his death in a crash. The base served as headquarters of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) as well as the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) and was known as "the Showplace of the Air Force" because of the Spanish Colonial Revival Style architecture in which all structures including hangars were constructed. Fort Sam Houston Independent School District is a public school district based in San Antonio, Texas (United States). History The district was formed in 1951 and opened for class in September 1952 for the purpose of serving the children of military personnel residing on Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis; previously, the children were assigned to surrounding districts. Initially only grades 1-6 were offered, but in 1961 construction began on a junior/senior high school to offer secondary education (grades 7-12) on post. Lackland Independent School District
Lackland Independent School District is a public independent school district (ISD) based in San Antonio, Texas (USA). The district's boundaries are coterminous with Lackland Air Force Base (AFB), and it only draws students who reside within the installation. However, it answers to the Texas Education Agency, not the Department of Defense Education Activity, and functions much like any other Texas school district. Additionally, children of Lackland AFB members residing off base do not have automatic rights to attend Lackland ISD but can be accepted on a transfer basis.
