Randi Marainen
Randi Marainen, née Eriksen (born 12 April 1953 in Børselv, Porsanger Municipality in Finnmark, Norway), is a Swedish Sámi silversmith and artist. Marainen grew up in a Sami family on the Norwegian Atlantic coast and trained as a silversmith with the German silver and goldsmith Gispert Dunker in Kautokeino Municipality. She has also studied duodji at Samernas utbildningscentrum in Jokkmokk, and pedagogy at college. She worked for a few years at the Sámslift Foundation Sámi Duodji in Jokkmokk with research on and development of duodji. Her public artwork includes a decoration in the main stairwell of the Diehtosiida campus. She lives and works in Nedre Soppero/Vuolle-Sohppar in Kiruna Municipality. She is married to artisan Thomas Marainen and is the mother of singer Simon Marainen. Diehtosiida
The Diehtosiida is a campus and academic facility situated in Kautokeino, Norway. It houses several Sami academic institutions – the Sámi University College, The Sámi Archives, Inner Finnmark Student Welfare Organization, the language department of the Sami Parliament of Norway, the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry and the International Resource Centre on Indigenous Rights. Asa Kitok
Asa Kitok, born Asa Persdotter Vitsak, (1894–1986) was a Swedish Sami artisan who reintroduced the art of working with birch roots. She had learnt birch-root weaving as a child at a time when it was close to disappearing. Her achievements have led to the Asa Kitok Scholarship which is awarded annually to Sami artisans working in Sweden. Biography Born on 5 March 1894 in Sörkaitums sameby (now Unna tjerusj), a village in the Gällivare Municipality of northern Sweden, Kitok pioneered the reintroduction of the art of birch-root weaving, one of the oldest crafts of the Sami people. Thanks to her fine craftsmanship, which she passed on to her daughters, it has now become an important aspect of Sami culture. Jokkmokk
Jokkmokk (; smj, Jåhkåmåhkke or ; se, Dálvvadis; fi, Jokimukka) is a locality and the seat of Jokkmokk Municipality in Norrbotten County, province of Lapland, Sweden, with 2,786 inhabitants in 2010. The Lule Sami name of the place (composed of the individual words and ) means "River's Curve," due to the meandering river that runs through it. As in other towns in Lapland, the Swedish language is dominant at an official level in Jokkmokk in modern times. The settlement is just north of the Arctic Circle.
