Ramón Y Cajal (scholarship)
The Ramón y Cajal Scholarship (RyC) is a Spanish post-doctoral scholarship, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, that allows outstanding early career researchers in foreign countries to establish themselves in Spanish research institutions. Together with the more junior Juan de la Cierva scholarship, it is the most prestigious nationally-funded research scholarship to follow a scientific career in Spain. In fact, it is considered the main talent attraction strategy for Spain to counteract its scientific brain drain. History The scholarship honors the Spanish neuroscientist Santiago Ramón y Cajal. It started back in 2001, and it has been awarded every year since then, to date (January 2023). It provides 5 years of funding, after which the institution is encouraged to open a permanent position to the researcher, although this is often not guaranteed. Aditi Sen De
Aditi Sen De is an Indian scientist, a professor in quantum information and computation group at the Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad. She was born on 1st October 1974 in Kolkata, India. She is known for her research on quantum information and computation, quantum communication including quantum cryptography, quantum optics and many-body physics. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded her the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology for her contributions to physical sciences in 2018. Mercedes López-Morales
Mercedes López-Morales is a Spanish-American astrophysicist at the Center for Astrophysics Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, who works on detection and characterization of exoplanet atmospheres. Education and career López-Morales studied physics during her undergraduate program at Universidad de La Laguna, in the Canary Islands, Spain. She received her PhD in astronomy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004. After completing her doctoral degree, she was a Carnegie postdoctoral fellow from 2004 until 2010 at the Carnegie Science Department of Terrestrial Magnetism (DTM) in Washington, DC. Nanda Rea
Nanda Rea is a scientist in the field of astrophysics, currently based in Barcelona, Spain working as a research professor for the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya. Education and career Nanda Rea was born in Rome from an iItalo-Argentinian father and an Iranian mother. Maritza Arlene Lara-López is a Mexican astronomer whose research interests include metallicity in galaxy formation and evolution and extragalactic astronomy. Carolina Mallol was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1973, and is a professor and researcher of archaeological science at the University of La Laguna in Tenerife, Spain. The Juan de la Cierva Scholarship (JdlC) is a Spanish post-doctoral scholarship, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, that allows outstanding young researchers to establish a postdoctoral career in Spanish research institutions. It is, together with the more senior Ramón y Cajal Scholarship, the two most prestigious nationally funded research scholarships to follow a scientific career in Spain. Carlota Escutia Dotti (born 1959) is a Spanish geologist, best known for her work on the geologic evolution of Antarctica and the global role of the Antarctic ice cap.
