Ramón Beteta Quintana
Ramón Beteta Quintana (7 October 1901 – 5 October 1965) was an influential politician in Mexico. Ramón Beteta Quintana was born in Hermosillo (though it was registered in Mexico City) on 7 October 1901. He was the son of Enrique Beteta Méndez and Sara Quintana, brother of Major General , and uncle of Mario Ramón Beteta. He studied at the University of Texas at Austin between 1920 and 1923, graduating with a degree in Economics. He then attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), obtaining a degree in law in 1926, and then becoming the first student to obtain a Ph.D. in Social Sciences at that school in 1934. Beteta was one of the founders of the National School of Economics at the UNAM, where he taught from 1924 to 1942. He also taught at law school, taught at the National Preparatory School (1925-1928), and taught in secondary schools in Mexico City. Mario Ramón Beteta Monsalve (7 July 1925 – 5 October 2004) was a Mexican economist who served as the last Secretary of Finance in the cabinet of President Luis Echeverría (1975–76), as director-general of Pemex (1982–87) and as governor of the State of México (1987–89). Early life Beteta was born in Mexico City into a family led by General Ignacio Beteta, a well-known artist and former chief of staff of President Lázaro Cárdenas and brother of Ramón Beteta, who also served as Secretary of Finance during the presidency of Miguel Alemán Valdés. Miguel Alemán Valdés (; 29 September 1900 – 14 May 1983) was a Mexican politician who served a full term as the President of Mexico from 1946 to 1952, the first civilian president after a string of revolutionary generals. His administration was characterized by Mexico's rapid industrialization, often called the Mexican Miracle, but also for a high level of personal enrichment for himself and his associates.
