Gustaf John Ramstedt
Gustaf John Ramstedt (October 22, 1873 – November 25, 1950) was a Finnish diplomat, orientalist and linguist. He was also an early Finnish Esperantist, and chairman of the Esperanto-Association of Finland. Biography Ramstedt was born in Ekenäs in Southern Finland. As an undergraduate, he attended the University of Helsinki, where he studied Finno-Ugric languages under Eemil Nestor Setälä. He was later attracted to the study of Altaic languages and went to Mongolia to study the Mongolian language at the suggestion of Otto Donner. He later became professor extraordinarius in Altaic languages at the same university. During his expeditions in Mongolia, Ramstedt become a personal friend to highly educated Buryat Mongol Agvan Dorzhiev who acted as full representative of 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso and was a full member in Tibetan Government, Kashag as Minister of Treasures (Finances). Ramstedt's Operation
Pyloromyotomy is a surgical procedure in which a portion of the muscle fibers of the pyloric muscle are cut. This is typically done in cases where the contents from the stomach are inappropriately stopped by the pyloric muscle, causing the stomach contents to build up in the stomach and unable to be appropriately digested. The procedure is typically performed in cases of " hypertrophic pyloric stenosis" in young children. In most cases, the procedure can be performed with either an open approach or a laparoscopic approach and the patients typically have good outcomes with minimal complications. History and development The development of the procedure has attributed to Dr. Conrad Ramstedt in 1911, who originally named the procedure Ramstedt's Operation. However, the procedure was truly performed about 17 months earlier by Sir Harold Stiles in 1910 at the Royal Hospital for sick children. Johan Ramstedt
Johan Olof Ramstedt (7 November 1852 – 15 March 1935) was Prime Minister of Sweden from April to August 1905. Biography Johan Ramstedt was born in Stockholm, son to clothing manufacturer Reinhold Ramstedt and his wife Maria Sofia Haeggström. He attended Uppsala university where he earned a degree in Government Studies in 1873 after which he interned at the Svea Court of Appeal in Stockholm. In 1878 he married Henrika Charlotta Torén. In the same year he was appointed Vice Prolocutor. He became acting official of the Court of Appeals in 1880, associate member in 1882, and full member official of the Court of Appeals in 1884. Ramstedt was appointed as a government notary to the 2nd Chamber of the Swedish parliament in 1876 and then to the 1st Chamber from 1877 to 1882. He moved on to the Ministry of Justice in 1892, after which he was promoted to Head of the Justice department in 1896 until 1898 when he was appointed Justice Councillor of the Supreme Court of Sweden. Wilhelm Conrad Ramstedt (1 February 1867 – 7 February 1963) was a German surgeon remembered for describing pyloromyotomy, Ramstedt's operation. Biography Conrad Ramstedt was born in 1867 in Hamersleben, Saxony-Anhalt, the son of physician Constantin Ramstedt. He was educated at the Gymnasium (school), gymnasium in Magdeburg before studying medicine at Heidelberg University Faculty of Medicine, Heidelberg, Humboldt University of Berlin, Berlin and finally University of Halle-Wittenberg, Halle from where he qualified in 1894. He became assistant in the University Surgical Clinic in Halle under Fritz Gustav von Bramann from 1895 to 1901. In 1901 he joined the German Army (German Empire), German Army as a medical officer in the 4th (Westphalian) Cuirassiers "von Driesen", Westphalian Cuirassiers, serving until 1909.
