Ramsharan Darnal
Ramsharan Darnal ( ne, रामशरण दर्नाल; 10 July 1937 – 18 September 2011) was a Nepalese ethnomusicologist best known for initiating and publicizing the study of music of different ethnic groups in Nepal. He also played an important role in the popularization of a few western instruments in Nepal. Early life and education Ramsharan Darnal, named Danda Kumar at Nwaran, was born on 10 July 1937, in Dhobichaur, Kathmandu to the-then drum major Satyakumar Darnal and his wife, Dilkumari Darnal. Born to a lower caste family, deemed untouchable during the Rana regime, Darnal was no stranger to hardships. In fact, despite being the second child born to his parents, he was the first to survive. Dol Kumari Karki (15 January 1946 – 23 January 2006), professionally known as Tara Devi was a Nepalese singer. She is known as the "Nightingale of Nepal", having recorded over 4,000 songs during her lifetime. Much of her music revolved around the themes of patriotism and love. Madhav Prasad Ghimire
Madhav Prasad Ghimire ( ne, माधव प्रसाद घिमिरे; 23 September 191918 August 2020) was a Nepali poet and scholar. He was honoured as the ''Rashtrakavi'' (National Poet) by the Government of Nepal in 2003. Some of his acclaimed works include '' Gauri'', ''Malati Mangale'', ''Shakuntala'' and ''Himalwari Himalpari''. Born in Lamjung, and educated in Kathmandu and Banaras, Ghimire had a career in literature spanning 86 years in which he wrote epic poems, plays and essays, composed popular songs like "Gaucha Geet Nepali" and "Nepali Hami Rahaula Kaha", and contributed to and edited literary journals and newspapers. He was the Vice Chancellor of the Royal Nepal Academy for 10 years and Chancellor for two more. Prem Dhoj Pradhan
Prem Dhoj Pradhan (6 June 1938 – 6 May 2021) was a Nepalese musician. He was a singer, composer, and regional playback singer. He sang in the two major languages of Nepal: Newari and Nepali. He was also known as the Golden Voice and King of Romantic Melodies of Nepal. Pradhan was the first musician to perform with a guitar in Nepal and was the first Nepali singer to sing with Indian playback singer Usha Mangeshkar for the movie ''Maitighar'' in 1965. In 1985, he sang duet songs with Asha Bhosle for the movie ''Mayalu'' in Bombay, India. Pradhan varied his musical style throughout his career and recorded approximately 700 Plus songs in both languages combined on Radio Nepal, including live broadcasting and recorded songs. Shiva Kumar Rai
Kumar Rai (1919-1995) was a Nepali language writer and politician from Darjeeling, India. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978 for his collection of short stories ''Khaharey''. He was the first Gorkha minister in the state of West Bengal after becoming a deputy minister in 1952. Biography Shiva Kumar Rai was born on 26 April 1919 at Rhenock, Sikkim. His father Dhojbir Rai was post-master and because of the constant transfer of this father's post, Rai initially took his primary lessons at home. Surya Bikram Gyawali
Surya Bikram Gyawali (; born 10 June 1898 – 1 December 1985) was a Nepali historian. He wrote biographies for numerous people including King Prithvi Narayan Shah and writer Bhanubhakta Acharya. Gyawali also served as a head teacher in Darjeeling. He is also a recipient of the Order of Gorkha Dakshina Bahu (first class), the Order of Tri Shakti Patta (second class), and the Tribhuvan Puraskar (1971). Biography Gyawali was born on 10 June 1898 ( Bikram Sambat: 1955 Jestha 29) in Benaras, British India to Ditta Til Bikram and Parvati Devi. His family had migrated to Benaras from Gulmi.
