Ramsay Hunt syndrome type 3 is a less commonly referenced condition, an occupationally induced neuropathy of the deep palmar branch of the ulnar nerve. Deep Palmar Branch
The palmar branch of the ulnar nerve arises about five cm proximal to the wrist from where the ulnar nerve splits into palmar and dorsal branches. It supplies sensory innervation to a small area in the palmar surface of the wrist. The palmar branch represents the continuation of the ulnar nerve as it crosses the flexor retinaculum of the hand on the lateral side of the pisiform bone, medial to and a little behind the ulnar artery. Ulnar Nerve
In human anatomy, the ulnar nerve is a nerve that runs near the ulna bone. The ulnar collateral ligament of elbow joint is in relation with the ulnar nerve. The nerve is the largest in the human body unprotected by muscle or bone, so injury is common. This nerve is directly connected to the little finger, and the adjacent half of the ring finger, innervating the palmar aspect of these fingers, including both front and back of the tips, perhaps as far back as the fingernail beds. This nerve can cause an electric shock-like sensation by striking the medial epicondyle of the humerus posteriorly, or inferiorly with the elbow flexed. The ulnar nerve is trapped between the bone and the overlying skin at this point. This is commonly referred to as bumping one's "funny bone". Ramsay Hunt syndrome type 1 is a rare, degenerative, neurological disorder characterized by myoclonus epilepsy, intention tremor, progressive ataxia and occasionally cognitive impairment It has also been alternatively called , ''dyssynergia cerebellaris progressiva'', dentatorubral degeneration, or Ramsay Hunt cerebellar syndrome. Presentation Onset of symptoms usually occurs in early adulthood and is characterized by intention tremor, progressive ataxia, convulsions, and myoclonic epileptic jerks. Tremors usually affect one extremity, primarily the upper limb, and eventually involve the entire voluntary motor system. Overall, the lower extremity is usually disturbed less often than the upper extremity. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome Type 2
Inflammation of the geniculate ganglion of the facial nerve is a late consequence of ''varicella zoster'' virus (VZV) known as Ramsay Hunt syndrome (RHS), commonly known as herpes zoster oticus. In regards with the frequency, less than 1% of varicella zoster infections involve the facial nerve and result in RHS. It is traditionally defined as a triad of ipsilateral facial paralysis, otalgia, and vesicles close to the ear and auditory canal. Due to its proximity to the vestibulocochlear nerve, the virus can spread and cause hearing loss, tinnitus (hearing noises that are not causes by outside sounds), and vertigo. It is common for diagnoses to be overlooked or delayed, which can raise the likelihood of long-term consequences. It is more complicated than Bell's palsy. James Ramsay Hunt (1872 – July 22, 1937) was an American neurologist. Early life and education James Ramsay Hunt was born in Philadelphia in 1872. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1893. He then studied in Paris, Vienna, and Berlin, and returned to practice neurology in New York, working at Cornell University Medical School from 1900 to 1910 with Charles Loomis Dana. In 1910, he joined the faculty at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and what later became their Neurological Institute of New York. He did major research on the anatomy and disorders of the ''corpus striatum'' and the extrapyramidal system, and described several movement disorders.
