Ramdien Sardjoe
Ramdien Sardjoe (born 10 October 1935) is a Surinamese politician and served as Vice President of Suriname from 2005 to 2010. He is a member of the Progressive Reform Party (VHP). He was born in the District of Suriname. Before vice presidency, Sardjoe was the Chairman of the National Assembly from 2001 to 2005. Ronald Venetiaan
Ronald Runaldo Venetiaan (born 18 June 1936) is a former politician who served as the 6th President of Suriname. Biography Venetiaan was born in Paramaribo. In 1955, Venetiaan left Suriname to study mathematics and physics at the University of Leiden. In 1964, he obtained his doctorandus, and returned to Suriname to become a mathematics and physics teacher. In 1973 Venetiaan was Minister of Education for the National Party of Suriname (NPS) in the government of Henck Arron. He was disposed by the 1980 Surinamese coup d'état. Venetiaan decided to teach at the Anton de Kom University. In 1987, Venetiaan returned to politics as the Chairman of the National Party of Suriname, and as the Minister of Education. His first term as president ran from 1991 to 1996, after which he lost in the elections to Jules Wijdenbosch. Jagernath Lachmon
Jagernath Lachmon, also Jaggernath Lachmon, (21 September 1916 – 19 October 2001) was a Surinamese politician. He was one of the founders of the Progressive Reform Party (VHP), an Indo-Surinamese party founded in 1947 of which he served as President until his death. Biography Lachmon was born in Corantijnpolder in the district of Nickerie. The youngest child of six, his parents were contract laborers from Uttar Pradesh to Suriname. His father was a cook and his mother clipped cane on the plantation Waterloo. His parents had chosen the surname Lachmon when they arrived at the plantation. Later, his parents started a small dairy farm in Nieuw Nickerie. Lachmon left for Paramaribo when he was thirteen, and completed his school qualifications. On the advice of one of his teachers, he decided to practise law. At that time, there were restrictions about legal studies in Suriname. Paul Salam Somohardjo (born 2 May 1943) is a Surinamese politician of Javanese descent. Somohardjo (nickname: ''Sómo'') has been called Paul Salam Somohardjo since childhood. Somohardjo also owns a radio and television station. Biography In 1973, Somohardjo was elected to the Estates of Suriname as a member of the National Party of Suriname (NPS). During the negotiations for the Independence of Suriname joined the opposition together with two other members of the government, because they considered the planned independence too hastily, and wanted a longer trajectory. In 1977, Somohardjo was one of the founders of the Javanese party Pendawa Lima. In 1980, there was a coup d'état which brought Desi Bouterse to power. In 1982, Somohardjo was jailed for alleged involvement in a counter-coup by Surendre Rambocus which was later changed to house arrest.
