Ramat Polytechnic
Ramat Polytechnic is a state tertiary institution of learning in Maiduguri Borno State, Nigeria. It was established by the government of the defunct North-Eastern State in January 1973 as Government Technical College. Background The College was renamed and upgraded to Ramat College of Technology in April 1978 by the Borno State Government, Government of Borno State in honour of the then Head of State, late General Murtala Ramat Muhammad. Ramat college received its polytechnic status in August 1979 in conformity with the Federal Government initiative to rename all Colleges of Technology in the country to Polytechnic. Ramat Polytechnic is a federal government approved tertiary institution and it was recognized by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). Murtala Ramat Muhammad
Murtala Ramat Muhammad (8 November 1938 – 13 February 1976) was a Nigerian general who led the 1966 Nigerian counter-coup in overthrowing the Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi military regime and featured prominently during the Nigerian Civil War and thereafter ruled over Nigeria from 30 July 1975 until his assassination on 13 February 1976. This period in Nigerian history, from the Northern counter-coup victory to Murtala's death, is commonly associated with the institutionalization of the military in politics. Born in Kano, into a ruling-class religious family, Murtala served in the Nigerian Army as a cadet in the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. He later served in Congo; eventually rose through the ranks to become brigadier general in 1971, aged 33, becoming one of the youngest generals in Nigeria. The National Board for Technical Education, otherwise known as NBTE, is a board of education which supervises, regulates and oversees educational programmes offered by technical institutions at secondary, polytechnic and monotechnic levels through an accreditation process. National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) is the regulator of Nigerian colleges of education. It formulates National Policy framework for the full development of teacher education and training of teachers. NCCE defines minimum standards for all programmes of teacher education and accredit their certificates and other academic awards. NCCE was established by Decree 13 of 1989 to supervise all aspects of non-degree teacher education and teacher professionalism in Nigeria.
