Raman Pratap Singh
Raman Pratap Singh (6 June 1950 – 18 May 2020) was a Fijian lawyer and politician of Indian descent. Early life Singh was born on 6 June 1950 in Buabua. He graduated with a law degree in 1977 and began working as a lawyer in 1978. He was a director on the Sugar Cane Growers Council and member of the Fiji Sugar Commission. In 1982, he began working as a town clerk for Labasa Town Council. Political career Raman contested the 1994 election on the National Federation Party (NFP) ticket, winning the Bua Indian seat in the House of Representatives.The Fiji Times - Monday, February 28, 1994 Singh was elected President of the mostly Indo-Fijian National Federation Party (NFP) on 31 July 2005, replacing Dorsami Naidu, who resigned facing sexual assault charges (of which he was subsequently acquitted). Legislative Council Of Fiji
The Legislative Council of Fiji was the colonial precursor to the present-day Parliament, which came into existence when Fiji became independent on 10 October 1970. The first Legislative Council Immediately after Fiji was ceded to the United Kingdom, on 10 October 1874, the first Governor, Sir Hercules Robinson, established an Executive Council with himself as President and comprising six other Europeans. This was a temporary measure to make policy decisions necessary to found and legitimise the new Colonial Government and to carry out the day-to-day affairs of the Government. With the arrival of Sir Arthur Gordon, on 1 September 1875, a permanent machinery for governing the new colony was established. Biman Prasad
Biman Prasad is a Fijian politician and economist who has served as the leader of the National Federation Party since 2014, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance since 2022. Early life and education Prasad was born in Dreketi in Vanua Levu and was educated at Muanidevo Indian School, Dreketi Junior Secondary School and Labasa College. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and economics from the University of the South Pacific, he pursued a Masters of Commerce from the University of New South Wales and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland. He married Rajni Chand in 1986. They have two children. Academic career Prasad became a lecturer at the University of the South Pacific in 1986.
