Ralph Hunt (Australian Politician)
Ralph James Dunnet Hunt AO (31 March 192822 May 2011) was a Deputy Leader of the National Party of Australia. Hunt was born in Narrabri, New South Wales to an established farming and grazing family, which traditions he continued after completing his schooling at The Scots College, Sydney. His mother's family, the Dunnetts, owned the ''North Western Courier'' newspaper. He was a councillor of Boomi Shire Council from 1956 to 1968 and Vice-President from 1962 to 1968. He won the seat of Gwydir in the Australian Parliament for the Country Party at a by-election in June 1969 following the resignation of Ian Allan. He was appointed Minister for the Interior in the Second Gorton Ministry in February 1971 and retained that position in the McMahon Ministry until the defeat of the government at the 1972 election. Ian Allan (politician)
Archibald Ian Allan (3 January 1916 – 13 February 2000) was an Australian politician. Born in Newcastle, New South Wales, he attended Sydney Grammar School before becoming an overseer at CSR. After serving in World War II from 1939 to 1946, he became an ABC announcer in Tamworth. In the by-election for the Australian House of Representatives seat of Gwydir that followed the death of Thomas Treloar in 1953, Allan was selected as the Country Party candidate and won. 1975 Australian Federal Election
The 1975 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 13 December 1975. All 127 seats in the House of Representatives and all 64 seats in the Senate were up for election, due to a double dissolution. Malcolm Fraser had been commissioned as caretaker prime minister following the dismissal of Gough Whitlam's three-year-old Labor government by Governor-General Sir John Kerr, on 11 November 1975. The same day, Fraser advised an immediate double dissolution, in accordance with Kerr's stipulated conditions (see 1975 Australian constitutional crisis). 1969 Gwydir By-election
A by-election was held for the Australian House of Representatives seat of Gwydir on 7 June 1969. This was triggered by the resignation of Country Party MP Ian Allan, who had been appointed Secretary-General and regional director of ANZAC war graves in the Pacific Region of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
