Ralph Howard, 7th Earl Of Wicklow
Ralph Francis Howard, 7th Earl of Wicklow (24 December 1877 – 11 October 1946) was an Irish aristocrat and politician. Biography Howard was the son of Cecil Howard, 6th Earl of Wicklow and Francesca Maria Chamberlayne. He succeeded as Earl of Wicklow on the death of his father in 1891. Lord Wicklow was commissioned a second-lieutenant in the 2nd Life Guards on 16 February 1898, promoted to lieutenant on 26 April 1899, and saw active service in South Africa from 1899 to 1900 during the Second Boer War. A squadron from the 2nd Life Guards was attached to the Household Cavalry Regiment during the war, and Lord Wicklow served as Brigade Signalling Officer, and received the Queen's South Africa Medal with three clasps. After his return to the United Kingdom, he was promoted to captain on 3 September 1902. In 1922, he was nominated by W. T. Cosgrave to the Seanad Éireann of the Irish Free State on its formation. Ralph Howard, 1st Viscount Wicklow PC (I) (29 August 1727 – 26 June 1789) was an Anglo-Irish politician and nobleman. Early life Ralph Howard was born on 29 August 1727 at Shelton Abbey, County Wicklow, the eldest son of seven children born to the former Patience Boleyn and the Rt. Rev. Robert Howard (1670–1740), Bishop of Elphin. His paternal grandfather was Dr. Ralph Howard. His maternal grandparents were Godfrey Boleyn of Fennor, County Meath ( a distant connection of the family of Anne Boleyn), and Mary Singleton, sister of Henry Singleton, Chief Justice of the Irish Common Pleas. Career Howard was High Sheriff of Wicklow in 1749, and of County Carlow in 1754. In 1761 and 1768 he was elected M.P. for both Wicklow County and the borough of St Johnstown, choosing to sit for the county. Sir Ralph Howard, 1st Baronet (1801 – 15 August 1873) was an Irish Whig politician and army officer. Family Howard was the first son of Hugh Howard and Catherine née Bligh, daughter of Robert Bligh. He was also the grandson of Ralph Howard, 1st Viscount Wicklow, and brother-in-law of Granville Proby, 3rd Earl of Carysfort. Educated at Eton College from 1817, and Brasenose College, Oxford, from 1819, he married, in 1817, Charlotte Anne Crauford, daughter of Daniel Craufurd, and widow of James John Fraser. Ralph William Howard (17 May 1931 – 19 December 2013) was an Australian politician. He was born in Melbourne to carpenter William Howard and Hazel Ralph. He was educated at Balwyn and Box Hill before attending Scotch College and then Melbourne University, where he received a Master of Business and a Bachelor of Science. He was a doctor at Footscray Hospital from 1957 to 1958 and at Prince Henry's Hospital from 1958 to 1959, thereafter becoming surgical register in 1959 and dermatologist in 1961. On 21 July 1961 he married Judith Elinor May Vertigan, with whom he had two sons. From 1962 to 1964 he was senior medical officer with the Royal Australian Air Force in Tottenham, and from 1964 to 1965 was assistant general secretary of the Australian Medical Association.
