Ralph C. Body
Ralph Clyde Body (February 18, 1903 – June 2, 1973) was a United States federal judge, United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Education and career Born in Yellow House, Pennsylvania, Yellow House, Pennsylvania, Body received an Bachelor of Arts, Artium Baccalaureus degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1925. He received a Bachelor of Laws from University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1928. He was in private practice of law in Pennsylvania from 1928 to 1960. He was solicitor for the Recorder of Deeds for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1933 to 1936. He worked for the Home Owners' Loan Corporation from 1933 to 1941. He was an assistant county solicitor in Pennsylvania from 1936 to 1938. He was a member of the Berks County, Pennsylvania, Berks County Board Law Examiners from 1946 to 1960. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges.
