Ralph B. DeWitt
Ralph Birchard DeWitt (June 8, 1901 – January 2, 1974) was an officer in the United States Marine Corps with the rank of brigadier general. The United States Naval Academy graduate, he spent his career mostly in Quartermaster Department and completed his service as commanding general, Marine Supply Center Barstow. Early career DeWitt was born on June 8, 1901, in Newfane, Vermont, as the son of Frank Austin and Lena Ware DeWitt. He attended the high school in Chester, Vermont, and subsequently received appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, in July 1918. DeWitt graduated in June 1922 with bachelor's degree and was commissioned second lieutenant in the Marine Corps on that date. During his time at the academy, DeWitt was active in fencing and also was a member of the editorial staff of the Log, the Midshipmen magazine. Newfane, Vermont
Newfane is the shire town (county seat) of Windham County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,645 at the 2020 census. The town includes the villages of Newfane, Williamsville, and South Newfane. History One of the New Hampshire grants, the town was chartered on June 19, 1753, by Governor Benning Wentworth, who named it Fane after John Fane, the 7th Earl of Westmoreland. But hostilities during the French and Indian War prevented its settlement. Because a first town meeting was not held within the required five years, the charter was deemed null and void. So Wentworth issued an entirely new charter on November 3, 1761, as New Fane. The town was settled in 1766 by families from Worcester County, Massachusetts. Vernon Huber
Vernon Huber (August 28, 1899 – June 17, 1967) was a United States Navy rear admiral, and the 36th governor of American Samoa from April 22, 1947, to June 15, 1949. He was born in Philadelphia, Illinois, and was appointed to the United States Naval Academy from that state. He served as the first commanding officer of the destroyer upon its launch in 1940. After his appointment, he advocated the diversification of the American Samoan economy. He also helped to increase the level American Samoan self-government, and was the first governor to serve alongside a Samoan legislature, the American Samoa Fono. John Martin Higgins (August 15, 1899 – December 7, 1973) was a rear admiral (upper half) in the United States Navy. Biography Higgins was born in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1899.
