Rake Community School District
Rake Community School District was a school district serving Rake, Iowa, and the surrounding rural area in northwestern Winnebago, and northeastern Kossuth County. For many years, into the 1970's, Rake Community School had been one of the smallest school districts in the state of Iowa, typically having fewer than 200 students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. Rake High School's 1975 graduating class, for example, had only 13 members, with just eight students in the second grade. On July 1, 1975, the Rake School District and the nearby Buffalo Center Community School District, located to the south, in Buffalo Center, a town of 1200, began sharing a Superintendent of Schools; Buffalo Center's then-superintendent assuming the role. At the time, no other school districts in Iowa had made this kind of arrangement. Buffalo Center Community School District
Buffalo Center Community School District was a school district serving Buffalo Center, Iowa. The district served sections of Kossuth and Winnebago counties. It was formed on July 1, 1954, by the merger of five school districts, each having a one-room school house, with one being in Kossuth County and the remaining ones in Winnebago County. One of the districts was the Buffalo Center Consolidated School District. The merger into the Buffalo Center Community District was approved by a vote held on December 10, 1953. In August 1954 the district board voted to establish a single centralized school for the entire district. The Buffalo Center district and the Rake Community School District began sharing a superintendent, with the Buffalo Center superintendent taking the role, on July 1, 1975. Buffalo Center–Rake–Lakota Community School District was a school district serving Buffalo Center, Lakota, and Rake, Iowa. It was established on July 1, 1992, by the merger of the Buffalo Center–Rake Community School District and the Lakota Community School District. The predecessor districts had already established a grade-sharing relationship between one another, as well as the Thompson Community School District and the Titonka Community School District.
