Raja Muhammad Azam Khan
Raja Azam Khan Amacha is a Pakistani politician and has been a member of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly since November 2020. He became Head of the ruling family of the former princely state of Shigar after the death of his father Raja Muhammad Ali Shah Saba. He is the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for the position of Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. Political career He contested the 2009 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Election from GBA-12 Skardu-VI as a candidate of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). He won the election with a margin of 1,702 votes over the runner-up Imran Nadeem of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP). He garnered 10,520 votes while Nadeem received 8,818 votes. He contested the 2015 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Election from GBA-12 Shigar as a candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML(N)) but was unsuccessful. Shigar Fort
The Shigar Fort ( Balti and ) means ''The Fort on Rock'' is an old fort of Baltistan and Pakistan located in the town of Shigar. It was built in the 17th century by the Raja of Amacha Dynasty of Shigar. The fort has been restored by Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan (AKCSP-P), the Pakistan arm of the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme. 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Election
The 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections were held on 15 November 2020. Elections will be held in 24 constituencies, each electing one member to the 3rd Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly. 330 candidates will contest these elections, either representing one of the political parties of Gilgit-Baltistan (at the time of the 2020 elections) or being an independent candidate. The elections were originally scheduled to be held on 18 August 2020, but were postponed in July due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely affected Gilgit-Baltistan. 2009 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Election
Elections were held on 12 November 2009 in the province of Gilgit-Baltistan for the first time to elect the first Assembly of Gilgit-Baltistan. Background The region of Gilgit-Baltistan was formerly known as Northern Areas. The Northern Areas were formed by joining Gilgit Agency and Baltistan regions in 1970 but the Northern Areas were ruled directly from Islamabad. In 2009 the Government of Pakistan passed an Autonomy Order known as Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-governance Order, 2009 which was signed by the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari in September 2009. Shigar
Shigar () is the headquarter of its namesake district and tehsil in the Baltistan division of Gilgit–Baltistan in northern Pakistan. It is located at the bank of Shigar River in the most remote and dramatic part of the region. It is a popular site for tourists and trekkers and contains many historical buildings of architectural significance associated with several different communities. The town is inhabited almost exclusively by the Balti people of Tibetan descent.
