The Raiziss and de Palchi Translation Awards was established in 1995 through a bequest to the New York Community Trust by Sonia Raiziss Giop, a poet, translator, and editor of ''Chelsea''. Eamon Grennan
Eamon JR Grennan (born 13th November 1941) is an Irish poet born in Dublin, Ireland. He attended University College Dublin where he completed a BA 1963 and an MA 1964. He has lived in the United States, except for brief periods, since 1964. He was the Dexter M. Ferry Jr. Professor of English at Vassar College until his retirement in 2004. Biography Though his Irish roots are clear in his poetry, Grennan has an international sense of literary tradition. He has cited as influences American poets including Robert Frost and Elizabeth Bishop (herself an international poet with ties to the U.S., Canada, and Brazil). Alfredo De Palchi
Alfredo Giop de Palchi (born December 13, 1926 Verona, Italy – August 6, 2020) was an Italian poet and translator. Life He grew up in Legnago, Verona, Italy. He was a political prisoner from the Spring of 1945 until the Spring of 1951. From 1951 to 1956 he lived in Paris, France and in Spain. In 1952 he married Sonia Raiziss, and with her, edited ''Chelsea'' magazine from 1960 on. On October 12, 1956, he arrived in New York City. Giovanni Raboni
Giovanni Raboni (22 January 1932 – 16 September 2004) was an Italian poet, translator and literary critic. Biography Raboni was born in Milan, the second son of Giuseppe, a clerk at Milan commune, and Matilde Sommariva. In October 1942, after the first bombings of Milan, the family moved to Sant'Ambrogio Olona, near Varese, where Raboni concluded his primary and intermediate school. Rosanna Warren
Rosanna Phelps Warren (born July 27, 1953) is an American poet and scholar. Biography Warren is the daughter of novelist, literary critic and Poet Laureate Robert Penn Warren and writer Eleanor Clark. She graduated from Yale University, where she was a member of Manuscript Society, in 1976, with a degree in painting, and then in 1980 received an M.A. from Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars. Until July 2012 she was the Emma MacLachlan Metcalf Professor of the Humanities and a University Professor at Boston University. Warren's first collection of poetry, ''Each Leaf Shines Separate'' (1984), received generally favorable notice in a review in ''The New York Times''. Giuseppe Ungaretti
Giuseppe Ungaretti (; 8 February 1888 – 2 June 1970) was an Italian modernist poet, journalist, essayist, critic, academic, and recipient of the inaugural 1970 Neustadt International Prize for Literature. A leading representative of the experimental trend known as '' Ermetismo'' ("Hermeticism"), he was one of the most prominent contributors to 20th century Italian literature. Influenced by symbolism, he was briefly aligned with futurism. Like many futurists, he took an irredentist position during World War I. Andrew Frisardi is an American writer and translator. He is a Fellow of and frequent lecturer at Temenos Academy, in London, which offers adult education in philosophy and the arts in the light of the sacred traditions of East and West. Phillis Levin
Phillis Levin (born 1954 Paterson, New Jersey) is an American poet. Life Levin is the daughter of Charlotte E. Levin and Herbert L. Levin of Yardley, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1976, and Johns Hopkins University in 1977. She was an Associate Professor of English at The University of Maryland, College Park, and is currently a visiting professor in the graduate writing program at New York University and a teaching poet-in-residence at Hofstra University. Vittorio Sereni
Vittorio Sereni (27 July 1913 – 10 February 1983) was an Italian poet, author, editor and translator. His poetry frequently addressed the themes of 20th-century Italian history, such as Fascism, Italy's military defeat in World War II, and its postwar resurgence. Born at Luino, Sereni graduated from the University of Milan in 1936. In 1938, he co-founded the literary review ''Corrente di Vita''. In 1941, he published ''Frontiera'', his first collection of poetry. He was drafted into the Italian Army during World War II: captured by Allied forces in 1943, he spent the rest of the war in POW camps in Algeria and Morocco. Charles Martin (born 1942, New York City) is a poet, critic and translator. He grew up in the Bronx. He graduated from Fordham University and received his Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York.
