Raisa Obodovskaya
Raisa Andreevna Obodovskaya (russian: Раиса Андреевна Ободовская; 6 August 1948 – 30 July 2012) was a Soviet track and road cyclist. Between 1967 and 1970 she won two gold and two silver medals in the 3 km individual pursuit at world championships, as well as a bronze in the road race in 1970. In November 1969 she married Yury Gladkov, and later gave birth to daughters Marina and Tanya. She resumed competitions in the late 1970s and won three national titles in road events in 1979–1981. UCI Track Cycling World Championships, Women
The UCI Track Cycling World Championships are the set of world championship events for the various disciplines and distances in track cycling. They are regulated by the Union Cycliste Internationale. Before 1900, they were administered by the UCI's predecessor, the International Cycling Association (ICA). Current events include: time trial, keirin, individual pursuit, team pursuit, points race, scratch race, sprint, team sprint, omnium and madison. Women's events are generally shorter than men's. Events which are no longer held include the motor paced events and tandem events. History World championships were first held in 1893, in Chicago, under the ICA. They were for amateurs. The UCI Road World Championships are the annual world championships for bicycle road racing organized by the (UCI). Individual Pursuit
The individual pursuit is a track cycling event where two cyclists begin the race from a stationary position on opposite sides of the track. It is held at over for men and for women. The riders start at the same time and set off to complete the race distance in the fastest time. They ride on the pursuit line at the bottom of the track to find the fastest line, with each rider trying to catch the other who started on the other side. If the catch is achieved, the successful pursuer is the winner. However, they can continue the rest of the race distance to set the fastest time in a qualifying race or a record in a final. Qualification and race format The first round of the competition at major events is the qualifying round. This still involves two riders on the track at the same time but they are not directly competing against each other but attempting to set the fastest time to progress in the competition.
