Rainbow Islands
is a 1987 arcade game developed and published by Taito. The arcade version was licensed to Romstar for North American manufacturing and distribution. The game is subtitled "The Story of Bubble Bobble 2" and is the sequel to Taito's hit game ''Bubble Bobble'' from the previous year. It is the second of four arcade games in the ''Bubble Bobble'' series (followed by '' Bubble Symphony'' and ''Bubble Memories'', but itself has two direct sequels: ''Parasol Stars'' and '' Bubble Bobble Part 2''). The game was ported for numerous home computers and game consoles. The main characters are Bubblun and Bobblun, the protagonists of ''Bubble Bobble'' (known as "Bub and Bob" in the western releases). However, in this game they appear in their human forms as "Bubby" and "Bobby", as opposed to the "bubble dragons" of the first game (following on from the first game's true ending). Taito Corporation
is a Japanese company that specializes in video games, toys, arcade cabinets and game centers, based in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The company was founded by Michael Kogan in 1953 as the importing vodka, vending machines and jukeboxes into Japan. It began production of video games in 1973. In 2005, Taito was purchased by Square Enix, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary by 2006. FM Towns
The is a Japanese personal computer, built by Fujitsu from February 1989 to the summer of 1997. It started as a proprietary PC variant intended for multimedia applications and PC games, but later became more compatible with IBM PC compatibles. In 1993, the FM Towns Marty was released, a game console compatible with existing FM Towns games. The "FM" part of the name means "Fujitsu Micro" like their earlier products, while the "Towns" part is derived from the code name the system was assigned while in development, "Townes". This refers to Charles Townes, one of the winners of the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics, following a custom of Fujitsu at the time to code name PC products after Nobel Prize winners. The e in "Townes" was dropped when the system went into production to make it clearer that the term was to be pronounced like the word "towns" rather than the potential "tow-nes". ''Bubble Bobble Part 2'', known in Japan as is a game in the ''Bubble Bobble'' series. While it was never released in the arcade, two versions of the game were developed independently from each other (for the NES and Game Boy systems), with each game receiving a different story line as a result. Parasol Stars
is a video game by Taito released in 1991. It is a sequel to ''Rainbow Islands'' and the third game in the ''Bubble Bobble'' series. Gameplay Bubby and Bobby (the characters' human names) star once again as the main characters, retaining their human forms from ''Rainbow Islands'', but ''Parasol Stars'' is more of a take on ''Bubble Bobble'' than it is on ''Rainbow Islands''. The game takes place on a number of different worlds, each with a distinct theme. Each world features seven rounds, the last one always hosting a boss that must be defeated to progress to the next world. There are eight main worlds, but in order to complete the game properly, the player must open a secret door on the final world by collecting three of the Star items - allowing access to 2 secret worlds, themed around ''Bubble Bobble'' and ''Chack'n Pop'' that are not initially visible on the main screen. Bubble Memories
is a video game by Taito released to arcades in February 1996. It is the sequel to ''Bubble Symphony'' and is the fifth ''Bubble Bobble'' game (although it is listed as being the third). Unlike ''Bubble Symphony'', this game stars only two dragons, Bub and Bob, like the original ''Bubble Bobble''. It was released in 2007 for PlayStation 2 in Japan only as part of the ''Taito Memories#Taito Memories II Joukan, Taito Memories II Volume 1'' compilation. Plot One day, the twins Bubby and Bobby, intermarried with Bub and Bob, playing together to the tower where they live, are transformed into bubble-blowing dragons by the evil Dark Super Great Dragon that takes possession of the tower. The twins must climb the 80 floors of the tower to take seven colorful potions, free it from his clutches and regain their human forms.
