Rainbow Falls Provincial Park
Rainbow Falls Provincial Park is a recreation-class provincial park within the Ontario Parks system. This park consists of two non-contiguous parts: Whitesand Lake campground in the main park, and the historic Rossport Campground, east of the fishing community of Rossport, Ontario, which provides campsites along the rough and rocky shorelines of Lake Superior. The Whitesand Lake campground is on the shores of Whitesand Lake (Hewitson River), Whitesand Lake and offers scenic trails to the park's namesake falls on the Hewitson River. The Rainbow Falls Trail has a waterside boardwalk trail. There is also the Back-40 trail, which goes through an abandoned campground to a panoramic view of the Lake Superior shoreline. Schreiber, Ontario
Schreiber is a municipal township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located on the northernmost point of Lake Superior along Highway 17. The town, with a population of approximately 1100 people, is almost completely located inside the geographic township of Priske, with a small western portion of the town in the southeast of Killraine Township. The town was named after Sir Collingwood Schreiber, a railway engineer, founding member of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers and deputy minister of Railways and Canals from 1892 to 1905. The town is near the main exposure of the Gunflint chert, which contains rare single-celled Proterozoic fossils. Rossport is a dispersed rural community and unincorporated place in the Unorganized part of Thunder Bay District in northwestern Ontario, Canada. Whitesand Lake is a lake in Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada, part of the Hewitson River system. Whitesand Lake is just north of Highway 17, about east of the community of Rossport and west of the community of Schreiber. The lake is about long at its longest, and at its widest. It is shaped roughly like the letter "H", with an elongated and fatter lower right arm. The primary inflow is the Whitesand River at the north side of the lake, and the lake flows out at the south-west via the Hewitson River over the Rainbow Falls into Lake Superior. Hewitson River
The Hewitson River is a short river in Thunder Bay District, northwestern Ontario, Canada. When the Canadian Pacific Railway was being constructed along the north shore of Lake Superior 1882–1885, the river was known as Maggot River. It is designed to provide education focusing on the natural and cultural heritage of the park its surrounding area. Parks such as Presqu'ile Provincial Park and Algonquin Provincial Park have very successful programs due to the use of multiple visitor centres, major park attractions, guided walks, children's programs, evening programs, night hikes, special event weekends and special event programs. King's Highway 17, more commonly known as Highway 17, is a provincially maintained highway and the primary route of the Trans-Canada Highway through the Canadian province of Ontario. It begins at the Manitoba boundary, west of Kenora, and the main section ends where Highway 417 begins just west of Arnprior. A small disconnected signed section of the highway still remains within the Ottawa Region between County Road 29 and Grants Side Road.
