Rainbow Brite And The Star Stealer
''Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer'' is a 1985 American animated fantasy film directed by Bernard Deyriès and Kimio Yabuki. The film was produced by DIC Enterprises, Inc. and Hallmark Cards, and was released in the United States on November 15, 1985 by Warner Bros. It is the only film to feature the greeting card character Rainbow Brite; she also appeared in a few television specials prior to its release, and later in a ''Kideo TV'' series. In the film, Rainbow Brite tries to bring spring to an Earth that is already facing a perpetual winter. She must stop a wicked princess who wants all of Spectra, a planet-sized diamond through which all the light in the universe must pass. The film did not receive advance screenings upon its release, and fared weakly among critics. It grossed almost $5 million at the United States box office, after opening with $1.8 million. Kimio Yabuki
Kimio Yabuki ( ja, 矢吹 公郎) is a Japanese animator. Known in Japan for his work on many early classic works by the Toei Animation studio, his best-known film in the West is ''Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer'' from 1985, produced by the French-American company DiC with animation work done in Japan. In 1969, he teamed up with a young Hayao Miyazaki in the production of an animated version of ''Puss in Boots''. Yabuki was an employee of Toei Animation until going freelance in 1973, but did work on several Toei productions (including ''Dororon Enma-kun'', ''Ikkyu-san'', and ''The Kabocha Wine'') afterward. ''Kideo TV'' was a syndicated anthology packaging by DIC Enterprises and LBS Communications, which premiered in April 1986. The show's name is a portmanteau of "kid" and "video". Hosts The show was hosted by four youths in auto racing attire with chassis on their shoulders. They included a boy, 4U ( Mark Hennessy) and a girl, Euphoria, who were the "good kids" of the show, and they taught lessons to the reckless Fast Lane, a fiery-haired teen with a flame-decorated chassis on his shoulders and the chubby, impressionable Couch Potato.
