Raimond L. Winslow
Raimond L. Winslow (born 1955) is an American biomedical engineer and computational biologist. He enrolled at Johns Hopkins University, where he was awarded a Ph.D. A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD, Ph.D., or DPhil; Latin: or ') is the most common degree at the highest academic level awarded following a course of study. In 2003, Winslow was recognized by IBM as a winner of the IBM Life Sciences Institutes of Innovation Award. In 2005, Winslow was appointed director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Computational Medicine. In 2010 Winslow was named the Raj and Neera Singh Professor for his accomplishments as an interdisciplinary researcher and pioneer in the field of computational medicine. Biomedical engineering (BME) or medical engineering is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes (e.g., diagnostic or therapeutic). BME is also traditionally logical sciences to advance health care treatment, including diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy. Also included under the scope of a biomedical engineer is the management of current medical equipment in hospitals while adhering to relevant industry standards. Computational biology refers to the use of data analysis, mathematical modeling and computational simulations to understand biological systems and relationships. An intersection of computer science, biology, and big data, the field also has foundations in applied mathematics, chemistry, and genetics.
