Railway Roundabout, Hobart
Railway Roundabout is a three-lane roundabout in Hobart, Tasmania. It is located on the Brooker Highway, at the top of Liverpool Street. It was originally built for the city's main railway station. At the centre of the roundabout is a fountain built in 1963. It was restored in 2013 after having been out of service for more than a decade. Railway Roundabout is the worst accident blackspot in Tasmania. Brooker Highway
The Brooker Highway is a highway in the State of Tasmania, Australia. As one of Hobart's 3 major radials, the highway connects traffic from the Hobart city centre with the northern suburbs and is the major road connection to the cities and towns of Northern Tasmania. With an AADT of 48,000, the highway is one of the busiest in Tasmania. The Brooker Highway has recently been declared part of the National Highway. The Brooker Highway runs approximately north from the CBD, through the northern suburbs of Hobart, and through the City of Glenorchy, bypassing commercial and industrial centres along the original Main Road. Liverpool Street, Hobart
Liverpool Street is a street in the Hobart City Centre, in the state of Tasmania. It runs parallel to Macquarie and Davey Streets from Brooker Avenue in the north, then southward through the central section of the CBD where it crosses Campbell Street, Argyle Street, Murray Street and Elizabeth Street, and then on to the south end of the city centre. It was well photographed at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth centuries. Historically locals referred to the "west end" of Hobart's CBD when frequenting the cinema or theatre along Liverpool Street, which was home to the Odeon Theatre and His Majesty’s Theatre. Accident Blackspot
In road safety management, an accident blackspot or black spot is a place where road traffic accidents have historically been concentrated. It may have occurred for a variety of reasons, such as a sharp drop or corner in a straight road, so oncoming traffic is concealed, a hidden junction on a fast road, poor or concealed warning signs at a crossroads. For some decades treatment of accident blackspots (e.g. by signage, speed restrictions, improving sightlines, straightening bends, or speed cameras) was a mainstay of road safety policy, but current thinking has it that the benefits of these interventions are often overstated. The Roundabout Appreciation Society (UKRAS) is a group of people in the United Kingdom that discuss traffic roundabouts.
